‘There is too much prudery’

-

SALLY JONES, 63, A MEDIA CONSULTANT FROM NEWBOLD PACEY, WARWICKSHIRE, IS MARRIED AND MUM TO 25-YEAR-OLD MADELINE AND 27-YEAROLD ROLY. SHE SAYS, “I was raised in a ‘naked household’ and brought up my children in one, too. I felt strongly that it was fine for my kids to see their parents in the nude. There is far too much unnecessary prudery and sexualisation of children. They are just bodies, nothing to get worked up about.

“My kids were aware from an early age that people come in all shapes and sizes and it gave them a healthier outlook of themselves. Like Marina, I think it’s much better to be open about these things and I’m glad she spoke out.

“My daughter has even seen me skinny-dipping with a couple of female friends late at night. But rather than being embarrassed, I think it’s healthy for her to see we weren’t self-conscious about having middle-aged bodies and the usual lumps and bumps that we acquire as we get older.

“On one occasion, a visitor got a bit of a shock when she saw my husband going to the bathroom in the middle of the night, stark naked – so we banned him from doing that when we had people staying over.

“Now the kids are adults, we cover up a bit more as they’ll usually visit with their partners. But Madeline and Roly have never complained about it. They both have a healthy attitude towards nudity and I don’t imagine they’ll have any problem being naked in front of their own children when the time comes.”
