WHY VIEWS LAUREN’S A CAUSED STIR

Reality TV star Lauren, 31, lives in Essex. She is currently single and doesn’t have children. She says:

“People have misunderstood my Tweet. I’m not saying parents should stop working completely – I’m saying that they shouldn’t go to work and leave their baby with a nanny they don’t know.

“I’m sure it’s a sore subject for mums and they’d rather stay at home and watch their children grow up than go to work. And the reality is that most women have to work. But if they have a job, they really need to do everything they can to ensure safe childcare and make sure all the necessary checks are carried out.

“If you don’t completely know the person you are leaving your child with, then you may as well just be calling up a stranger.

I was surprised by the backlash to my Tweet, as I just wanted to raise awareness of what could happen. People say I shouldn’t comment because I don’t have children, but my sisters have kids and so do my best friends. I also can’t wait to have a baby because I know I’ll be a good mum.

“I’d probably get a nanny, but it would be somebody I knew really well. Or I’d use a nursery with lots of carers and children and far less chance of anything like this happening. People complain about not seeing their children and needing a nanny, but they really need to think about their priorities. What’s more important than a baby’s safety, love and affection?”
