5 MINUTES WITH...

Piers Morgan, 52, who this week interviews controversial comic and ex-generation Game host Jim Davidson for his fab Life Stories…

-

You’re on TV a lot at the moment (with Good Morning Britain, Life Stories and the ITV Serial Killer docus). Which do you enjoy most? I would have to say I get the most pleasure out of doing GMB – it’s been an unexpected joy, and people seem to like it. It’s staggering to me that anyone would want to wake up to me in the morning, but it appears some people do… Are you feeling happier about the early morning thing, then? I actually threatened to quit in the summer. Going in for 4am was killing me. It’s one thing if you have to get up for an early morning flight, but doing it every day for a few weeks leaves you like a zombie. So, they let me go in for 5.30am, and when our offices move to White City, I can basically roll out of bed at 5.50am and get on air on time. Are you banned from moaning about being tired? Pretty much, yes. Susanna [co-presenter Susanna Reid] is never tired and she never complains about the hours. But as soon as she started doing documentaries (for ITV), that meant a bit of travelling so she gets why I value how I feel more. What was Pamela Anderson like (in last week’s episode?) She was annoyed that when we interviewed friends of hers who weren’t activists, it wasn’t at all about her being an activist (the ex pin-up is now an animal rights campaigner). But she hadn’t seen the show! Pamela and Jim Davidson were my favourite interviews for Life Stories; they are people I have written about and interviewed many times. Three of my other favourites – Cilla Black, Ronnie Corbett and Bruce Forsyth – are sadly no longer with us, but I am so glad and honoured I got to do those stories about their amazing lives before it was too late.
