Stressed Scarlett confesses: “I wish I wasn’t famous”
Insiders say diet scandal-hit Scarlett Moffatt dreads even leaving the house
This time last T year, Scarlett Moffatt was riding high as the nation’s sweetheart after being crowned Queen of the Jungle on 2016’s I’m A Celeb!
But now, insiders tell Closer the star, 27, is fed up with fame after facing a second backlash over her fitness DVD, which has been labelled a “sham”. New claims emerged last week that she had been taking diet pills before filming.
In text messages reported by The Sun, Scarlett allegedly told her fitness instructor David Souter that the Swiss trainer she was working with was giving her diet pills. The reported texts said, “He worked me to the max... had me popping pills and I lost 0.4 of a pound. I said the drugs don’t work and he called me a t*t.”
Within a matter of days of the damning texts surfacing, there was fresh angst for Scarlett when insiders revealed that locals in her village have complained that her £300k new-build home in northeast England doesn’t fit in with the surrounding houses. One villager told a national newspaper, “It’s an eyesore that sticks out like a sore thumb and lets the village down.”
REALLY HOSTILE
A source reveals, “Scarlett feels everyone is out to get her, and the situation with her neighbours is the final straw. She’s supposed to be enjoying her new home but it feels really hostile. Her family has been trying to rebuild her confidence.
“She’s mortified over the diet pills scandal. She feels as though she’s let everyone down. She’s been crying and saying she misses her old life, before it all got really complicated. Scarlett would love for it all to blow over so she can continue to do what she loves.”
Scarlett – who went from 11st 5lbs and a size 18 to 8st and a size 8 – has been accused of cheating fans with her Superslim Me Plan fitness DVD, after it was claimed she went to a secret boot camp in Switzerland, where she survived on only 700 calories a day.
The former Gogglebox star had boasted that she lost 3st thanks to a 1,200 calorie-a-day diet, as well as a strict exercise plan. After the recent claims surfaced, her spokesperson insisted, “Scarlett never knowingly took diet pills.”
And reports have suggested that Scarlett may have to repay £100,000 to the producers of the DVD for failing to keep off the weight for a year as contractually obliged.
An insider adds, “She’s in a bad place. She feels she’s gone from being one of the most popular girls on TV to one of the most criticised. She’s been getting so much abuse online, she’s even told pals that she wishes she wasn’t famous.”
PAST HEARTACHE
Scarlett – who is dating fitness model Lee Wilkinson – has come a long way from when she burst onto our screens on Gogglebox in 2014, having gone on to become a household name, and starring on Ant & Dec’s
Saturday Night Takeaway.
This latest drama isn’t her first experience of heartache. In October last year, she admitted her 18-month relationship with Luke Crodden was over, telling friends on Facebook it was his “choice in the end”, and that he’d dumped her on her birthday.
She also had to endure vile
abuse from online trolls in February, after she was wrongly accused of having an affair with troubled TV star Ant Mcpartlin, after he split with his wife of 11 years, Lisa Armstrong.
Not all of Scarlett’s fans have turned their back on her, though, and some took to Twitter last week to say she should stand in for Ant fronting Saturday Night Takeaway following his arrest for drink-driving. It was later confirmed she will co-host the show with Dec and Stephen Mulhern, while Ant takes a break from his TV commitments.
The source says, “She’s doing her best to put on a brave face. But she dreads even leaving the house at the moment.”
