Tamara: “Fifi loves private jets – but she takes the bus, too!”

After cruel taunts from online trolls, heiress Tamara Ecclestone insists her daughter is grounded and ‘addicted’ to their low-key trips to Sainsbury’s

- By Katie Banks

he hit the headlines after S opening the doors to her billionaire lifestyle last year, on her show Tamara’s World – with viewers tantalised by scenes of her four-year-old daughter Sophia travelling around by private jet, modelling an array of designer clothes and playing in her own giant ball pit in their £70m mansion.

And while fans were impressed by handson Tamara Ecclestone’s loving relationship with Sophia, whom she calls Fifi, some were quick to slam her for “spoiling” the toddler.

Now defiant Tamara hits back following a stream of online abuse last week, after she held an extravagant bash for Fifi’s fourth birthday – which included gigantic piles of presents and a three-tiered Care Bears cake.

She says, “Seeing Fifi being so confident and having so much fun on her birthday was the best day of my life and I won’t let anyone ruin that for me. People are just jealous and I really don’t care about the negativity.

“I’m so busy as a mum, I barely have time to pee, let alone write abusive messages to someone I don’t even know. It used to upset me when I was more insecure in my 20s. I would panic when people said I had bad hair or a gross outfit, but now I’m in my 30s and happily married with a child. I’ve got no time for this rubbish!”

NOT SPOILT

And Tamara, 33, who married businessman Jay Rutland in a lavish ceremony in 2013, insists that despite her privileged upbringing, she’s making sure Fifi stays grounded.

The socialite adds, “Fifi’s not spoilt. She loves going on private jets, but she also takes the Tube and the bus! She’s even been on the subway in New York. And she’s addicted to Sainsbury’s – when she comes with me, she loves sitting in the trolley, so I pile up all the food on top of her.

“I’ve taught her that she speaks to everyone exactly the same – whether that’s the cleaner or a CEO. When she goes on play dates with other children, she shares all her toys. And after receiving all her birthday presents, we then decide which of her things she doesn’t need and we give them to charity.”

She raised eyebrows after taking Fifi to upscale Japanese eatery Benihana for another birthday treat, but Tamara says her daughter simply has a sophisticated palette.

Tamara, whose father Bernie founded Formula 1 and is worth a reported £2.4 billion, says, “I’m glad Fifi doesn’t want Mcdonald’s every lunch time as it’s so unhealthy. She tries everything, which makes me really proud. She loves Japanese food and ate prawns, egg-fried rice and mushroom soup on her birthday.”

And the heiress admits she won’t let anyone take a swipe at her sister Petra, 29, who recently went through an acrimonious divorce with gold dealer James Stunt.

In a vicious attack against legend Bernie, James claimed he had “lost his public standing” by marrying the daughter of a “C-list celebrity dwarf.” Tamara hit back immediately, saying, “What kind of a ‘man’

does this on his daughter’s birthday? Unless he stops telling lies about my family, we will have to start telling the truth about him.”

Tamara, who has been seen partying with Petra’s new man, Sam Palmer, admits she’s very protective of her sister. She says, “I love Petra and the fact she’s now such an amazing single mum to her three kids is inspiring. She’s keeping a dignified silence, but I’ll always defend my family. It’s been a really painful episode.”

CONTROVERSIAL DECISION

Now Tamara, who last year launched kids’ toiletries company Fifi and Friends, says while she’s holding back on trying for baby No.2 for the time being, she’s excited about Fifi starting school in September. She also reveals she has no plans to stop breastfeeding her daughter – another topic that has caused controversy in the past. She says, “I don’t know why it outrages people so much. I only breastfeed Fifi at night now as part of her bedtime routine. I won’t stop until she wants to. It’s a decision between me and her. My boobs are around my knees now! They’re not the best, but they’re not my priority – Fifi is. Motherhood is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I wouldn’t change it for the world!” ● Find out more about Tamara’s children’s beauty range at www.fifiandfriends.co.uk
