‘Getting married does not guarantee forever’

-

Former WAG Lizzie was married to footballer Jason Cundy for 18 years. They divorced in 2012.

She says, “I completely understand where Kylie is coming from. I married my first husband Jason in 1994 when I was in my 20s. At that point in my life, I believed marriage was the most important thing and should last forever.

“It meant a lot to me to have a ring on my finger. But Jason and I split in 2010 [amid claims he cheated] and it was a massive blow. It was like a death. It took me being on my own again to realise that getting married doesn’t guarantee forever and it’s not the most important thing in a relationship. As I get older, I realise marriage is not for me.

“I understand where Kylie is coming from, because after going through a lot of drama in your life, you realise that what’s truly important is being happy. I have friends who are similar ages to me and have fantastic relationships with people they don’t even live with. Many of my friends now understand that what works for them is independence, even when they’re in a happy relationship. I now work hard for my own money so I can take care of my two sons [Josh and James, who she shares with ex Jason].

“Marriage could mean I have to split my cash with someone and I don’t want to do that. I’m not ruling out finding love with a man in the future, but I don’t care about getting a ring on my finger again.”
