Coleen & Wayne’s US move will help them ‘start again’

After reports that husband Wayne Rooney could be set to sign to a US football team, pals say Coleen believes it could help put the past behind them

Her marriage H to footballer Wayne Rooney endured a rocky 2017 after the footballer’s boozy night out with party girl Laura Simpson in September saw him slapped with a driving ban and a 12-month community order.

But wife Coleen later revealed in a lengthy Facebook post that she’d forgiven him, and it was last week claimed that the Everton player had signed a deal “in principal” with US based team DC United – meaning a potential two-year move to Washington.

Now sources say Coleen’s friends believe this could mark a fresh start for the couple.

A source says, “Wayne has been in talks with DC and, after everything they’ve been through, Coleen’s friends feel this could be just the change of scenery they need to start again and put the past behind them.”

Last year, it was claimed Coleen had blocked his move to the Chinese Super League after Wayne lost £500,000 in a Manchester casino.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY

But sources say the mum-offour – who has sons Kai, eight, Klay, four, Kit, two, and Cass, three months – feels a move to the States could be positive for their family.

The source adds, “Moving to a new country could open them up to exciting opportunities, new friends and a different lifestyle for the boys. It’s definitely got her thinking.”

But insiders say it’s proving a tricky decision, as Coleen is so close to her family and friends in Cheshire.

The source says, “Coleen has always been supportive of Wayne’s career and, while she’s excited by the idea, it’d be so hard to be away from family. Of course, she could fly back and forth or maybe divide her time. Nothing’s been decided just yet, so she and Wayne are trying to work out the logistics.”

Last week, Coleen revealed that she and Wayne were set to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary on holiday with the children on 12 June. But their plans appeared to be thrown into jeopardy days later when it was reported that Wayne was being lined up as a pundit for the World Cup in Russia – which starts just two days later on 14 June.

Now sources say Wayne has insisted he’ll make the milestone celebration special – even if they have to do it earlier than planned.

STILL STRONG

The source adds, “Wayne could always fly out to Russia straight after their anniversary, or they could mark it a few days earlier so he can pull out all the stops.

“Coleen is really hoping to be spoiled by Wayne. Even if they can’t celebrate on the actual date, she still wants to mark the fact that, despite all the hurdles, their marriage is going strong ten years in.”
