Insiders say Cheryl has brushed aside reports that ex Ashley Cole pursued Meghan Markle
Fans couldn’t resist teasing Ashley Cole in the days following the Royal Wedding, with many taking to Twitter to remind the footballer of the time he missed out on dating Meghan Markle back in 2013.
Meghan, 36, is alleged to have spoken to a newspaper journalist at the time, revealing that a then-single Ashley, 36, had been desperate to date her.
“He follows me and he keeps trying to talk to me on Twitter. He’s trying really hard,” Meghan reportedly commented.
But the former actress – who is now known as the Duchess of Sussex after marrying Prince Harry – was warned off dating Ashley by friends because of his bad reputation with women, particularly his ex-wife Cheryl, who he was married to for four years, before they split in 2010 amid allegations of his cheating.
Now insiders tell Closer that Cheryl, 34, has laughed off the whole saga. A pal shares, “As far as Cheryl is concerned, her marriage to Ashley is ancient history. She actually saw the funny side of it all and laughed. She thinks Meghan had a lucky escape from dating him, and was able to not let it affect her. She’s had to get used to hearing stories about her exes.”
Ashley welcomed a daughter called Grace in February this year. It’s his second child with Italian model girlfriend Sharon Canu, with whom he already has a two-year-old son whose name has not been publicly released.
And pals say singer Cheryl is glad her ex-husband appears to be in a good place.
The source says, “She’s pleased that it seems Ashley has become a changed man now and that he’s happy. She had to make peace with what happened between them a long time ago.”
