Beckham’s hit by shock divorce claims

Social media went into overdrive last week over speculation the couple were on the brink of a split

They’ve faced T months of speculation over the state of their relationship, and last week Victoria and David Beckham’s 19-year marriage was under the spotlight once again when high-street bookmakers Paddy Power and William Hill suspended betting (something bookmakers often do when they fear a major payout) on the couple announcing their divorce, following online rumours that they were on the verge of a split.

Even former Big Brother star and one-time Posh lookalike Chanelle Hayes Tweeted, “Oh my god the Beckhams though,” with a sad emoji face.

CONSTANT RUMOURS

However, as Closer went to press, Posh and David’s reps both firmly denied the claims, with Posh’s rep insisting, “There is no divorce”.

A source says, ‘This neverending speculation makes Vic feel quite miserable. While she knows it is part of being a famous couple, having to defend her relationship all the time is tiring and challenging. She hates the constant negative rumours about her and David and doesn’t want her children to have to read that bookmakers had been placing odds on their parents splitting up.”

It’s not the first time the pair – who are parents to Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, Cruz, 13, and daughter Harper, six – have faced rumours about their relationship.

Last month, fashion designer Posh, 44, was mocked for looking “miserable” as she arrived at the Royal Wedding with David, 43. And days later, reports claimed her gloomy expression was due to revelations that David had partied with socialite Kara Keble-white at trendy Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire the night before.

As a result of the allegations, trolls claimed Posh and David’s marriage must be “for the cameras only”, adding that they were only together for publicity. The backlash came just months after the couple faced allegations in the American press that their marriage had become “loveless”.

Critics also mocked David’s body language towards Posh in an Instagram photo he posted on her birthday in April – accusing him of showing little affection. And they pointed out his odd choice of words in his birthday message to Posh, when he simply described her as an “amazing mummy”.

ROCKY MARRIAGE

Insiders have previously revealed to Closer that Victoria struggled with being apart from former England captain David earlier this year, as she remained in the UK while he often spent time in Miami with his soccer league.

The couple have endured their fair share of storms throughout their marriage. In 2004, they were hit by claims David had been unfaithful with his PA, Rebecca Loos – claims he called “ludicrous”. That same year, model Sarah Marbeck claimed she’d slept with David in Singapore in 2001 and that they’d continued to exchange sexually suggestive texts for two years. David called the claims “absurd and unsubstantiated”, and Posh insisted, “We’re definitely going to get through this.”

In 2012, singer Katherine Jenkins also raised eyebrows when she issued a firm denial on Twitter addressing rumours that she’d had an affair with David.

In 2015, there were reports the Beckham’s marriage had suffered a string of rows. And last year, insiders claimed Victoria was angered by David’s partying with female pals – particularly socialite Lady Mary Charteris.
