Defiant mum: “I slept with my pregnant daughter’s man – and I don’t regret it”

When Linda Fraher’s daughter caught her in bed with her boyfriend Ryan, it ended their relationship – which was just what Linda wanted...

For most mothers, the idea of even flirting with their daughter’s boyfriend is strictly taboo – but Linda Fraher, 43, went much further than that.

Closer revealed earlier this year how Aimy Dennis, 25, caught her mum Linda in bed with her then-boyfriend of four years, Ryan, 26, and even videoed it for proof. To make the betrayal even worse, Aimy was 35 weeks pregnant at the time.

Speaking about it for the first time, Linda now tells Closer that she doesn’t regret having sex with Ryan, because it meant his relationship with Aimy finally ended – and she is convinced her daughter is better off without him.

Linda, who’s unemployed and lives in Lowestoft, Suffolk, explains, “I’d known Ryan even before Aimy started seeing him, because I knew his ex-girlfriend’s father. He could be charming, but he was a bad boy and a bit of a Romeo.”

MOMENT OF MADNESS

She adds, “I constantly told Aimy that he was bad news and hoped she’d end it with him. Their relationship was very toxic; I witnessed some terrible rows between them. Sleeping with him was a moment of madness and I feel terrible that I betrayed Aimy. I hate that I hurt her so much, but I can’t regret the fact that it finally made her see him for what he is and end her relationship with him. She’s better off without him.”

Astonishingly, Linda says that despite the drama, her relationship with Aimy is now better than ever.

She explains, “Aimy was the model child up until she was about 12 years old. But then overnight she became very, very difficult. I did my best with her, but she’d be out all hours and nothing I did was right in her eyes. She ended up going to live with my mother for long periods of time throughout her childhood because we found it so hard to live together. I loved her, but our relationship could be volatile.”

But when Aimy fell pregnant with Ryan’s baby, after nearly four years together, it was her mother she turned to. And on her 24th birthday last July, it was Linda who accompanied her during a gender scan and then out to lunch as Ryan was away. Linda was also asked to be there at the birth, alongside Ryan.

Linda says, “I was thrilled when she asked me. I was so happy that the baby had brought us closer.”

SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR

However, in October 2017, Ryan and Aimy had an enormous argument and Linda insists that Aimy told her to get Ryan away from her and they went off together. A few days later, Aimy was unable to get in contact with either of them

and, feeling suspicious, caught Linda and Ryan in bed together and videoed it. But Linda swears that on that occasion it was innocent. She says, “I’d gone to bed earlier. I was lodging with a friend at the time; Ryan got drunk and they put him into my bed. I didn’t know he was there.”

Linda insists that after Aimy told everyone she’d slept with Ryan, she thought she’d lost her and the rest of her family for good – and admits that she got drunk a week later with Ryan, and it was then that they knowingly slept together.

She says, “I was so angry with Aimy for not believing me and I went out with Ryan. It’s all a bit of a blur and we were both really drunk when we slept together. When I woke up the next morning I was horrified about what I’d done. I told Ryan to leave immediately. I felt horrendous – how could I have done that to my daughter? I didn’t know what to do. Part of me wanted to tell her, but I didn’t want her to think that we’d been at it all along. It was only the once. And she already wasn’t speaking to me after finding us in bed together.

“At the back of my mind, I kept on thinking that this would finally end their relationship. I didn’t want him for myself, but I was sure that both she and the baby would be better off without him, and that this would be the only thing that would keep her away from him for good.”

Linda eventually confided in a friend of hers and Aimy’s, who revealed all to Aimy a few weeks later. She was understandably devastated and banned Linda and Ryan from being in the delivery room when she gave birth to her son, Amari, in November 2017.

It wasn’t until January this year that Aimy started to forgive her mother. Linda says, “She forgave Ryan first, then me. I understand what I did must have felt like the bigger betrayal. I feel incredibly lucky that she’s let me into her and Amari’s life and I love them both to bits. We are closer than ever now; I love being a granny and it feels like we’ve managed to start all over again. I still feel awful that it happened, but Aimy is happy and Ryan has gone away to live in Scotland. I don’t regret sleeping with my pregnant daughter’s boyfriend because I am glad they broke up. She deserved better than him.”

Aimy says, “I will never forget or trust either of them again. To be fair, I am happier, but I still think it’s inexcusable. But she’s my mum and Amari deserves to see his gran.”

Ryan says, “I regret sleeping with Linda and would do anything to change it. I miss my family and I still love Aimy.”
