Lizzie: ‘It’s a murky world – they do it because they can’

-

Former WAG Lizzie Cundy, 50 – who was married to ex Chelsea star Jason – says, “We all see the glitz of the footballing world but, in reality, it’s murky. Jermaine’s book is shocking, but hats off to him for telling it how it really it is. Some footballers seem to think it’s OK to have different morals to everyone else and I’m glad Jason never behaved like that. They have a “lads’ club” culture, where they do what they want and their treatment of women is awful. They think rating women is funny, but they don’t realise they are real people. Footballers do it because they can get away with it and they can afford payouts to stop people talking. The temptation is there – so many girls want to be the next Victoria Beckham. When I was with Jason, I used to watch my back as women would throw themselves at him. Football clubs need to stop letting players get away with it. They are role models and their sleazy behaviour should not be swept under the carpet.”
