5 MINUTES WITH...

Actor, presenter and Spandau Ballet member Martin Kemp, 56, is joining wife Shirlie plus other pairs of celebs in a once-in-a-lifetime trip for a new BBC2 show…

Tell us about the show… We were in a car travelling through south-east Asia, doing a classic car rally that happens every year – in different places all around the world. This one went through Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia; three countries I’ve never been to before. You’re basically in a car with your wife [Wham! singer Shirlie]. Did that go well? I was kind of worried about doing a TV show with Shirlie. I’ve never done it before, and the only time we ever argue is when we’re in the car! So it was a challenge and a test, to be honest. But it was a lot of fun. This wasn’t a holiday, it was an adventure – and an amazing one. Did you take anything special with you from home? I knew we’d be driving old pre-1970 cars, so because I knew it would be hot over there and none of them had air-conditioning, I took my own fan. You should’ve seen the other guys’ faces the first day I plugged it in! Did you get much downtime? We didn’t get a lot. But we did get a chance to sit down at the end of each day and have a glass of wine with everyone, so that was nice. Will you be watching this when it goes out? What I usually do if I’m ever on the TV is look at my Twitter and see what it’s saying, and then I’ll catch up with the show a few days later. Do I mind watching myself on the TV? I’ve been doing this now since I was ten years old, so I’ve kind of grown up with it. It’s just one of those things.
