Matt Goss: “It’s good to feel horny again!”

Bros star Matt Goss opens up about sex in his 50s – and why he’ll never get back with “true love” Mel Sykes

He shot to fame as a sex symbol and as part of ’80s boyband Bros, alongside twin brother Luke and bassist Craig Logan. And as Matt Goss approaches his 50th birthday, he still has as many female admirers today as he did three decades ago. But despite this, the star – who has a residency at 1Oak at The Mirage Casino in Las Vegas – is currently single. He says he’s on the lookout for love after a difficult few years, during which he lost his mum Carol to breast cancer in 2014 – although her tragic death saw Matt and Luke patch things up after a ten-year fallout.

He tells Closer, “It’s not been an easy few years since losing my mum, healing the rift with Luke and having a relationship breakup. I missed that basic feeling and the desire to have sex because, when my mum died, I felt I was looking at the world with a onedimensional view and it didn’t look threedimensional to me.

“For a long time, I was enveloped in this cloud of grief and it affected everything, too. I am a cerebral human being, but it is good to feel horny again! Having your mojo is one thing, but it’s good to feel horny.

“I have always been very blessed when it comes to meeting ladies. When I am walking down the street, I get hugged and prepositioned by fans. Sometimes it makes me feel a little bit horny. I don’t know who I will end up with and marry, but if I met a fan that I loved, then I would marry them.”

Matt has turned to his celebrity pal Kelly Osbourne – whom he met when he moved to America over ten years ago – to help him find a girlfriend, and she signed him up to elite dating app Raya.

ONLINE DATING

Matt says, “Kelly is a good friend of mine and she recommended Raya, but while I’m grateful for the introduction, I’m not sure if dating apps like this are the way forward. Tinder is for a quick sh*g and that doesn’t interest me. I have to be honest and the interaction can be so boring.

“I did meet a lovely lady and she wrote a whole paragraph to introduce herself and I thought that was nice. But the other day, I got a message from a girl saying, ‘What’s up, player’, and I won’t respond if I get something like that. You can still say ‘Hello, I am…’ I think an introduction is important. Nothing romantically has come from it so far.

“It’s very difficult to meet the right girl, but I’m a lot more relaxed about dating now. I want to have a bit of time to be naughty before I find love. Now I love sex for the first time in a really long time – but it has to be with a connection. I don’t sleep around, but if I am lucky enough to have sex, then I am very grateful.

Over the years, Matt has had a string of famous girlfriends. He dated Wheel Of Fortune presenter Jenny Powell from 19871988, and then Melanie Sykes – who he described as his “true love” – for five years in 1992. He’s also been linked to fellow Brits Abi Titmuss, Chloe Green, Martine Mccutcheon and Rebecca Ferguson.

In 2001, he was engaged to Cuban model and MTV presenter Daisy Fuentes, but the on/off romance ended in 2010, amid reports she allegedly cheated on him with her ex-boyfriend, Luis Miguel.

DREAM WOMAN

But Matt isn’t keen on reuniting with any of his exes. He says, “I would never in a million years get back together with Mel. We don’t fancy each other any more. She’s just an ex-girlfriend and that is all. Mel went on holiday with my brother and she is probably closer to him than she is with me. But I love her – she’s a great girl, as is Jenny.”

But while he looks for his dream woman, Matt is throwing himself into work. He stars in a feature film about Bros called After the Screaming Stops, which is set for release in November. He says, “I can’t wait for the big 5-0! I feel more virile, more alive and more youthful than I have ever been. I might not have a six-pack, but I feel happy in my skin!” ● Listen to Matt at the Proms In The Park concert live on BBC Radio 2 on 8 September
