Desperate Gemma: “I’ll never be able to let Arg go”
As James ‘Arg’ Argent goes to rehab again, Gemma Collins is torn over their notoriously stormy romance
They have endured a rocky on-off romance for the past seven years, and split in July amid claims of fiery rows.
And last week, Gemma Collins and James “Arg” Argent’s relationship took another shock twist when it was confirmed that he’d returned to rehab for his “wellbeing”.
Arg, 30, previously checked himself into a rehab centre last year in Thailand to improve his physical and mental wellbeing. In 2014, he also spent time in The Priory for alleged drink and drug issues.
WORRIED
Opening up about the revelation, Gemma, 37, insisted the pair were back together, but said, “Arg is receiving help and, you know, as long as he’s doing well, that’s great for him and for us and I’m just supporting him on his journey.”
But pals worry that the romance between them has become toxic and feel that Gemma should walk away now before it’s too late.
A source says, “Gemma’s friends are tired of seeing her always dropping everything to help Arg and be by his side. No matter how many times he’s let her down in the past, she always lets him back in. She’s said she could never imagine walking away from him for good, but friends fear the rocky romance is now toxic for them both.”
While his relationship with Gemma has been notoriously troubled for years, the pair appeared to declare their love for each other on the TOWIE Christmas special last December.
And after landing her own spin-off series, Diva Espana, earlier this year, Gemma set her sights on them becoming an A-list couple – telling pals she was even determined to crack America with the help of her former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Jonathan Cheban – who is Kim Kardashian’s best pal.
But her new show has only exposed the cracks in their romance, with Gemma breaking up with Arg in the first episode – aired last week – after he admitted he’d never love her the way he loved his first girlfriend, Lydia Bright, 28.
However, sources say Gemma is refusing to walk away and has told pals she’ll even put her Hollywood dreams on hold for him.
The source says, “Gemma can’t help but feel guilty that she’s to blame for Arg’s demons sometimes because of their fiery rows, and wants to be there for him and get him back on track. Her friends have urged her not to give up her exciting career plans for him, but Arg is her weakness and she would still do anything for him. She sees her fairy-tale ending with him and hates the idea of giving up on that.”
After rekindling their romance at Christmas, the couple discussed their desire to start a family. Appearing on This Morning in April, Arg said he was “absolutely” looking forward to fatherhood, and the following month, Gemma admitted in an interview, “If I fell pregnant tomorrow we would have it.”
BABY PLANS
In another scene during Diva Espana last week, Gemma spoke openly about her desperation to save her romance with Arg for the sake of her having a family. She said, “If anything happens, I’ll be on my own, still childless, still unmarried, and I’ll have to start all over again.” She was even seen bursting into tears as her dad, Alan, admitted Arg wasn’t “top dollar” for her.
The source adds, “Ultimately, starting a family with Arg would be her fairy-tale ending. She really thinks that having children would be the making of him and believes that kind of commitment would help him with his struggles. Although he’s fallen short of her expectations over the years, Gemma has told friends that when there are children involved, you have no choice but to work through all your problems as a family unit.
“She knows that Arg has to complete his stint in rehab before this can happen, but she’s adamant that a family would give him something to be strong for. She’s now praying they don’t spend too much time apart while he’s recovering. She hasn’t given up on their relationship, or her happy-everafter, by a long mile.”
