‘I’ve wanted to do the show for so long – it’s a dream come true’

-

Steps singer Faye Tozer has admitted that she’s over the moon to be taking part in Strictly this year – but she tells Closer just how eager she’s been to take part in the show. She says, “I’ve wanted to do Strictly for such a long time. Every time we did a Steps tour, I’d invite casting agents from Strictly to come and have a look. I was like, ‘Hi! I’m here!’ I’m over the moon that, finally, they let me in. It’s a dream come true.”

Faye, 42 – who has been paired up with Strictly pro Giovanni Pernice – was one fifth of the ’90s pop group Steps, but despite her experience in the music industry, she insists she’s been struggling with ballroom dancing. “I guess I do have an advantage when learning routines, as I’ve done that with Steps. But I’ve never worked with a partner, and that’s a completely different thing. I’m loving being swept around the dance floor by someone else – but my biggest problem so far is that I’m not very good at being led! My partner has been giving me a talking to, because I end up leading them. That’s been my criticism so far.”

And Faye says she’s going to give the show her all – not because she’s desperate to win, but so that she can get the chance to wear as many glamorous Strictly outfits as she can. “I’ve had some fittings and I’ve asked to try on every style possible. We get our dresses designed each week, so it depends on the themes as to what we can wear. But I want to stay in for as long as I can, so I get to wear as many of the outfits as possible!”
