‘I don’t need much sleep’

-

I HAVE TO GET UP AT 3.20AM FOR GOOD MORNING BRITAIN. I jump in the shower, get dressed and then drive to work. AT THE STUDIOS, I AM STRAIGHT INTO MEETINGS AT 4.15AM TO DISCUSS THE SHOW. I eat some fruit and drink five cups of tea or coffee, all during the show. When I come off air at 8.30am, I will have a meeting afterwards with the team to discuss the next day, and then have a substantial breakfast of poached eggs, sausage and avocado. I WILL THEN TRY TO SLEEP AT HOME IF I CAN, and later go to the gym and do a bit of calisthenics to help protect my back. I slipped a disc in March. I also run, swim and do Power Pilates. IN THE AFTERNOON, ANNIE AND I GO FOR A WALK. Sometimes we have lunch at our favourite pub, The Victoria, in East Sheen. WE WILL HEAD HOME IN TIME FOR THE BOYS TO GET BACK FROM SCHOOL. We’ll mess about and catch up for a bit, then I try to help the boys with their homework. We have dinner together every night if we can. Annie is an amazing cook – she has an allotment, so dinner is often whatever has been dug out of the ground that day. MY BOYS ARE BAKE OFF ADDICTS, so we watch that together as a family. I got into trouble for introducing them to The Inbetweeners! I quite quickly realised it wasn’t very appropriate for them. I’M IN BED BY 9.30PM, which is the same time the boys go to bed. I don’t need much sleep. It drives my wife mad how quickly I fall asleep. Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays from 6am
