‘Gorka loves my body’
After showcasing her incredible curves on holiday, Gemma Atkinson opens up about staying in shape and her plans to settle down
he found love S with Strictly professional Gorka Marquez when she appeared on the show last year, and Gemma Atkinson looked the picture of happiness as the pair soaked up the sunshine in Crete last week – splashing about in the sea and sharing a kiss on a surfboard.
Opening up to Closer about her incredibly toned figure just days later, Gemma says Gorka fills her with confidence and encourages her to stay fit. The former Hollyoaks actress adds, “Gorka and I train together and love eating healthily together, too. He loves my body and tells me I’m beautiful, but I don’t need a guy to tell me that. He’s amazing, though. We’re both so happy.”
RIGOROUS WORKOUTS
Gemma, 33, shared snaps of her trip to Crete with her dancer boyfriend, 28, on Instagram, and fans were quick to shower her body with praise – telling the blonde actress she looked “gorgeous” and “sensational”.
And fitness-lover Gemma reveals she always strives to keep her body in tip-top condition – admitting that a holiday is not an excuse to let her fitness regime go slack.
Gemma says, “Gorka and I always try to find somewhere that has a gym. We don’t exercise every day, but I like to go hiking, and for a swim in the pool. I always try to work out four days a week. I don’t really drink, either, so I think that’s helped massively.”
But it’s not all hard work, as Gemma says she loves her food – admitting her weaknesses are cheesecake and pizza.
She explains, “We love eating healthily, but I also love cheesecake and pizza for a treat. I went to Ibiza recently and it was my first drink in 18 weeks – but the day after, I felt horrendous. That’s why I stopped drinking – it takes two or three days to get over it now that I’m in my thirties.”
INSPIRATIONAL
With a new series of Strictly kicking off soon, Gemma – who was partnered with Aljaž Skorjanec – admits she’s looking forward to watching Gorka take to the dance floor once again with his new partner, Katie Piper.
She says, “Gorka said from day one, ‘I really want Katie Piper’, and I said, ‘Oh my God, she’d be amazing – she’s so inspirational.’ She loves training, he loves training, they’re both into their fitness. It’s worked out perfectly. He’s said training is going really well. I’ll be down every weekend to support him when the live shows start.”
But while Gemma may be smitten, she isn’t planning on walking down the aisle any time soon. She adds, “I don’t want to jinx it. Gorka and I are both so happy – why not keep it as it is? I’d love a family one day, but we’re both far too busy and I’m too young. But one day, hopefully.”
