‘I’d love to be a sex symbol!’

-

She’s been gracing our screens for 20 years – with viewers often complimenting her ageless looks and fantastic figure. But while Kate Garraway tells Closer that she’s flattered by the praise, she insists she has her hair and make-up team to thank.

“I would be delighted to be labelled a sex symbol!” laughs Kate. “If I can be 51 and have sex associated with my name in any way, that’s a win. But I don’t know about that. The Good Morning Britain make-up team and stylists are brilliant – sometimes I come in and they go, ‘Oh God! We’ll slap on the make-up today!’ Make-up and a blow-dry does an awful lot.”

The presenter, who made her TV debut back in 1998, celebrated her 50th birthday last year. And Kate admits that now she’s in her fifties, she’s making more of an effort to stay fit and healthy.

LIFESTYLE OVERHAUL

She says, “I’m very old now, so I do try to get in a bit of fitness. It definitely helps, and makes you feel better. But like everyone else, it’s just trying to squeeze it in here and there, isn’t it? I’ve been trying to eat better, trying to drink more water – all the boring things that I won’t be doing [at the TV Choice Awards]!”

Kate’s GMB co-host Susanna Reid is also keen on her health and fitness, having hit headlines last week for her 14lb weight loss – and she gushes that Susanna, 47, is looking fantastic.

“Susanna looks brilliant – even more amazing than usual,” smiles Kate. “And now she’s cut out alcohol for September – which she decided to do after the GQ Awards earlier this month. She was a bit hungover and was like, ‘I can’t do it any more, Kate. I quit alcohol!’ Well, good on her.”

Earlier this year, Kate – who took part in Strictly in 2007 – was rumoured to be in talks to appear in this year’s series of I’m A Celeb!. And while she’s keeping tight-lipped on the subject, Kate says she’d be honoured to be given the chance.

REALITY TV

She says, “I’d be flattered to be considered. I suppose I’d like to… It’s weird to say you’d like to be covered in cockroaches though, isn’t it? Does anybody want that in life? People have said I’d be great on the show, but I’m wondering whether they just want me to suffer. We shall see!”
