He’s made no secret of his desire to run for presidency over the years, admitting earlier this month, “Yes, 100 per cent it could happen.” And last week, singer and close friend John Legend reaffirmed Kanye West’s desire to run for office, saying, “I think he’s serious. I think that’s a part of why he likes Trump. I think he sees some aspects of himself in Trump and sees that Trump winning makes it feel like he could do it too.”

But sources say that behind closed doors, Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian – who shares North, five, Saint, two, and nine-monthold Chicago with Kanye – is terrified by the prospect, telling pals she’s been desperately trying to convince him to focus on family and his music instead.

A source reveals, “Kanye has spoken about running for office but, until now, Kim’s always suspected the idea was more of a fantasy. However, Kanye’s been really driven by Trump’s success and feels convinced he could run for president in either 2020 or 2024. Kim’s now worried about the thought of Kanye throwing himself into an intense campaign trail and becoming obsessed with winning an election. She thinks it would consume him and she would prefer him to spend more time with their family.

CONSTANT SCRUTINY

“She’s also worried about how the kids would cope with the constant scrutiny. Obviously they are already in the spotlight with celebrity parents, but she feels their dad becoming President of the USA would bring a whole new level of fame and pressure.”

The rapper, 41, is notorious for his controversial outbursts, and revealed Kim had feared for their future after he claimed slavery was a “choice” earlier this year – rapping in a song, “My wife callin’ screaming we’re about to lose it all. Had to calm her down cause she couldn’t breathe.” Kanye later apologised for his comments.

But insiders say Kim worries about the toll a presidential bid would have on her husband – who suffers with Bipolar Disorder and had a nervous breakdown in 2016

The source adds, “Kim worries about the impact something as stressful as a presidential campaign could have on Kanye – not to mention if he was actually successful and won. Kanye is a passionate person and very driven in his career, and Kim knows he’d give this his all, but she thinks the intense pressure could prove too much. She would hate to watch him crumble under the pressure.

“Kanye is at his happiest when he’s creating music and spending time with family. And while she loves his passion for politics and his confidence that he could make it to the top, Kim’s trying to persuade him to give up on the idea for the sake of his wellbeing.”

Meanwhile, sources say that Kanye – who announced Kim had enrolled in law school, despite her rep later denying this – is trying to persuade them to work together on his political dream, and has told her it would be a way for her to leave her reality star persona behind.

POWER PLAYER

Kim has already had a brief foray into the world of politics, meeting President Trump in May to discuss prison reform. She was back at The White House last week to meet with Trump about criminal justice reform.

The source says, “Kanye’s pushing her to become a political power player and leave her reality star persona behind. Plus, he thinks it will give him a better chance of being seen as a credible candidate if they work as a team.”

And insiders say Kanye is

trying to convince Kim – who famously dressed as Jackie Kennedy for a photo shoot – that becoming First Lady would cement her status as one of the world’s most famous faces and help her steal her crown back, after being eclipsed by younger sister Kylie, 21 – who is thought to be almost a billionaire thanks to her lucrative make-up range.

The source adds, “Kanye’s trying to convince Kim that this will put her firmly on top again. He reminded her that being First Lady would make her the most famous woman in the world and give her a star status that even the likes of movie stars Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts don’t have.

“Kim has admitted the idea is attractive, and she would love to outshine her sisters, but she still doesn’t know if Kanye putting himself – and their family – through something as stressful as running for office is worth that risk.”
