Strictly confessions
She previously revealed S that she was “sick with nerves” over her Strictly debut, and was hoping to prove to the nation that “pigs can fly” by learning to master the art of dance. But Susannah Constantine’s dancing partner Anton du Beke tells Closer that the What Not To Wear star has seriously underestimated herself, and is sure she will wow audiences. Speaking at the TV Choice Awards last week, Anton, 52, said, “Susannah is a hidden gem. I couldn’t believe it. We’ve had our first rehearsals and she’s absolutely brilliant – I’ve got a warm feeling and I’m very excited to see what happens.”
DETERMINATION
Anton was revealed as 56-yearold Susannah’s partner earlier this month, and the pair are currently training in preparation for the first live show, which is set to air this Saturday.
He admits, “I was delightedly surprised by Susannah. Sometimes you think, ‘Oh, this could be a disaster’, when you start training together, but then you go, ‘Oh, hello, this is actually brilliant.’
“She’s got form, lovely style and great timing. She’s a very good dancer, but her enthusiasm and determination are what makes her so brilliant. That is what you are really after in a partner.”
FEELING LUCKY
And Anton – who is currently taking part in his 16th series of Strictly – even insists that despite being one of the older couples on the show, the pair have what it takes to make the final.
He says, “Debbie Mcgee was one of the older contestants last year, and she made it to the final. I don’t see why Susannah and I shouldn’t be able to do that, too. Some people have written her off, but let me tell you, they’re wrong. There’s a long run in it for us on Strictly. I’m feeling lucky!”
