‘It was heartbreaking’
JUSTIN ON JEN SPLIT:
Fans were shocked when they called time on their relationship in February, but now Justin Theroux has finally broken his silence on the collapse of his two-year marriage to Jennifer Aniston.
Describing the split as a “gentle separation” with “no animosity”, Justin explained, “Neither one of us is dead, neither one of us is looking to throw hatchets at each other… It’s more like, it’s amicable. It’s boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be.”
He added, “It was heartbreaking. Only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day. But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of.”
Actor Justin, 47, raised eyebrows in the wake of his split from Jen, 49, after he was spotted heading back to his New York apartment with actress Aubrey Plaza, 34, in March. And in May, he was seen with Maniac co-star Emma Stone, 29, on numerous occasions – for a sushi “date”, at the Met Gala after party, and later at the Louis Vuitton Cruise Show in the South of France.
Insiders previously revealed to Closer that Jen – who was spotted out for dinner last week with best pal and former Friends co-star Courteney Cox, 54 – was left angered by his antics, claiming they felt hurtful and insensitive.
The actress revealed her feelings in August, saying, “The misconceptions are ‘Jen can’t keep a man,’ and ‘Jen refuses to have a baby because she’s selfish and committed to her career.’ Or that I’m sad and heartbroken. First, with all due respect, I’m not heartbroken.”
Jen added, “Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do.”
