Sad Charlotte’s “masking her pain” with booze
The former Geordie Shore star leaves fans concerned after she is worse for wear on a worrying drunken night out
After rising to fame on Geordie Shore in 2011 and becoming notorious for drinking to excess, wetting herself and bedding castmates on camera, Charlotte Crosby vowed to clean up her act, revealing last year, “Nowadays I don’t even want to go out, I’m so bored of all that. I don’t even drink much alcohol because I prefer a night in.”
But last week, the 28 year old sparked fresh concern after partying in Manchester at a pal’s engagement celebration when a photo of her passed out and covered in her own vomit was posted online by a friend. Charlotte later joked online, “Have you ever got so drunk you were sick all over yourself and had to get carried out of the club by your Mam and dad… Yeh I’m a mess.”
Fans were left horrified, with one commenting, “She seriously needs help,” while another added, “Really worried about you.” And insiders tell Closer that pals are also extremely concerned that Charlotte – who was arrested for drink driving in 2012 and 2016 – is once again on a dangerous path.
DEPRESSION
A source says, “In recent years Charlotte had been saying she wants to clean up her act and stop the heavy boozing. But when she goes on a big night out, it seems she still can’t help herself. While some pals found the photo funny, most of her closest friends were shocked she got herself in to such a state and that she seems to be joking about it.” In July, Charlotte broke down in a video on social media after she was accused of bullying Love Island star Dr Alex George – following her tweets about his “vile pink face” and “wooden plank personality” – insisting, “I’m sorry if I offended anyone.” The Just Tattoo Of Us host was left depressed and in therapy after suffering an
ectopic pregnancy with former co-star Gaz Beadle, 30, in 2016 and broke down late last year at the news that he was expecting a baby with partner Emma Mcvey. Opening up last year, she admitted, “I keep going through these waves of depression. I’ve felt sad before and I’ve been heartbroken and I’ve been stressed and I’ve thought I was a little bit depressed at times, but this is all of those feelings jumbled together times a hundred.”
The source adds, “Charlotte’s gone through a tough few years and emotions still run high for her. When she’s feeling sad or stressed out, friends know she goes out and gets drunk to forget. That’s why her binge drinking always worries them because they fear it’s a sign she’s masking her pain.”
After finding happiness with boyfriend Joshua Ritchie, 24, earlier this year, Charlotte told Closer she longed to be a mum – insisting, “I would love to start trying for a baby next year! I don’t want to be an old mum!”
But the pair have at times endured a volatile romance, becoming embroiled in a fiery bust up in St Lucia in May and unfollowing each other on social media last month amid rumours of a split.
Opening up after her night out last week, Charlotte said, “I’m on my way to see my boyfriend who I lost in this whole process of being so, so, so drunk. I’ve got a feeling he’s not going to be happy with me… I think I’m going to be in a doghouse.” Joshua later insisted to Charlotte that everything was fine, but insiders say her drinking has been a source of tension. The friend adds, “Joshua loves Charlotte, but doesn’t always like it when she’s drunk. That’s when they row. They’ve spoken about their future together and wanting to start a family, but Charlotte keeps reverting to her old ways.”
SETTING GOALS
And behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings tells Closer she believes Charlotte needs to reassess her personal goals.
Jo says, “She needs to ask herself what she wants out of life, where she wants to be going, what’s her plan, how she’s going to get there. Right now she still seems to be stuck as Geordie Shore Charlotte – maybe because that show made her famous and popular and it’s almost a comfort blanket – rather than moving forward to become the person she aspires to be.”
