Posh: “I don’t know how much more I can take!”
With speculation mounting over the state of her marriage and an attempted burglary at her home, pals say Victoria Beckham is distraught
Their reputation T for having one of the strongest marriages in showbiz has come under intense scrutiny over recent months – especially after they were forced to deny divorce rumours in June following a series of accusations that they had appeared “miserable” together in public.
And speculation over the state of Victoria and David Beckham’s 19-year marriage reached fever pitch last week when it was reported that the fashion designer, 44, had fled to a detox spa in Germany that specialises in emotional wellbeing, and “cried for two days” – something her rep denied – after David’s hurtful admission during a TV interview that marriage is “always hard work” and “complicated”.
TENSE
Days later, it was revealed that masked raiders had been caught on CCTV attempting to break into the Beckhams’ £6 million Cotswolds mansion.
The family were then snapped looking tense after landing in Australia for the Invictus Games. Commenting on the body language between the couple as they holidayed with their children – Brooklyn, 18, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and seven-year-old Harper – one fan said, “David never touches her, holds her hand, puts his arms around her or shows her any physical affection.” While others speculated that the couple had already split, adding, “The divorce is on its way” and “This is definitely the first PR assault wave for an impending conscious uncoupling”.
The source reveals, “Victoria is struggling to hide her recent sadness. She’s admitted to pals she can sometimes feel alone in the relationship because she never knows what David will do from one day to the next and whether it will lead to more upsetting speculation and comments from people who seem to want to break them up. She was angry over his recent statements about their marriage and the subsequent backlash they caused.”
MISERABLE
The source adds, “She’s trying to hold it in and not upset the kids, but it’s making her miserable and she’s not sure how much more she can take. Vic doesn’t really know how they can ever change people’s perception of their marriage. She can’t believe how they’ve gone from being regarded as one of the strongest couples in the public
eye to everyone seeming to think they’re going to announce a split. She’s told pals she can’t believe it’s come to this.” The source adds, “All Vic wants is for David to shower her with some affection and prove to the world how in love they are, but he feels awkward being too full-on with PDAS and says it could make people speculate about the state of their marriage even more.”
To add to Posh’s woes, sources say the recent attempted breakin has left her feeling hugely anxious after dealing with a series of security threats in the past. Posh and David – who have an estimated combined wealth of £700 million – faced a terrifying situation in 2000 when police uncovered a plan to kidnap Posh and their then- baby son Brooklyn. Two years later, it was reported that four men and a woman had been arrested after an alleged plot to kidnap Posh was foiled. Speaking about the ordeal, the star said, “It was horrendous. I was being driven around in bulletproof cars, I wasn’t allowed to go out of the house. We had police sitting outside the house 24 hours a day.”
The source adds, “Vic knows how much of a target she and David are due to their wealth. She’s been through nasty threats in the past and it’s only natural that the fear has stayed with her. To think about their home being broken in to is just terrifying.”
LONELY
And insiders say it’s also hit home how alone she can feel as she and David’s schedules often keep them thousands of miles apart. Following his retirement from football in 2013, David spoke of his excitement at becoming a stay-at-home dad admitting, “It’s nice to be home and spend time with them.” But less than a year later, he announced plans to purchase a US soccer team and now regularly travels to Miami to work on the new league.
The source adds, “Vic has admitted she hoped the family would spend more time together after his retirement, but his new work commitments now often see him travelling thousands of miles away. She tries to keep herself busy, but being home alone or with just the kids can be scary given what’s happened in the past. It reminds her how lonely and vulnerable she feels when he’s away for work.”
