Marnie Simpson: “I’m too scared to go under the knife again”

The Geordie Shore star admits she’s ruined her looks after destroying her lips with filler – and reveals why she’s turning her back on risky butt-lift injections

She’s no stranger to going under the knife, and her appearance has changed dramatically since she started out on Geordie Shore five years ago – having had numerous surgical procedures, including boob-lifts, nose jobs, liposuction, Botox and lip and facial fillers. And Marnie Simpson even showcased a rounder bottom earlier this year, after plumping for bum-filler injections.

But the 26 year old now admits to Closer that after two British women died undergoing controversial Brazilian butt-lift surgery – where fat is taken from one part of the body and injected into the buttocks – she’s terrified of having more surgery. She says, “It really affected me, hearing about the things that have happened to young girls, so I’m scared to ever do it again myself. Surgery is just too risky.”

COSMETIC REGRETS

Like many of the Geordie Shore alumni, Marnie – who announced in March that she’d quit the show – has pumped her lips with filler over the years, with fans often flooding her Instagram comments begging her to stop. And the star confesses that even after being told by doctors she’d ruined her natural lips, it hasn’t put her off the cosmetic procedure.

Marnie says, “I regret my lips. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t have touched them. I haven’t had lip fillers in a long time – I got them all removed. A doctor told me I’ve destroyed my natural lip line from the constant fillers, so I’ll never be completely happy with my lips. Obviously, I’ve learned a big lesson and it’s been tough.”

The former Miss Newcastle finalist joined Geordie Shore in 2013, and a year later she’d already undergone a nose job and boob uplift, both of which had to be corrected with further procedures. The star – who was stopped at passport control in July as her surgically altered appearance didn’t match her photo – has spoken about her struggle with body dysmorphia and tells Closer she believes she started having surgery when she was too young.

MENTAL HEALTH WORRIES

She explains, “I had body dysmorphia and anxiety and I genuinely think a lot of it stemmed from being on TV for so long. I think having a little bit of a break and a step back has massively helped my mental health. I started having surgery too young. When you’re like, 20, you don’t really know who you are and surgery is a risky move. You change your mind every week at that age.”

But despite her radical transformation over the years, Marnie insists that she looks more natural now as she’s toned back her cosmetic enhancements.

She reveals, “I get a bit of Botox and I’ve had five sessions of 3D liposuction, targeting my chin, arms, inner thighs and bum. It’s a lot less risky as it doesn’t involve going under the knife and I’ve already seen the results – my mum says my face is much thinner now.” And it’s the star’s mum, Sharon Kyle, who is most relieved that she’s turning her back on invasive surgery. Marnie adds, “My mum hated the fillers and all of that – she’s happy I’ve stopped.”

But despite her healthier attitude towards surgery, Marnie admits that, in the future, she could be tempted by another boob job if she has children and breastfeeds, adding, “I wouldn’t get implants, though, I’d just have an uplift.”

Babies were on Marnie’s mind earlier this year when she visited a fertility clinic with her boyfriend, singer Casey Johnson, 23 – whom she previously called The One – but now the star admits the pair are taking a break from their romance.

TIME APART

She explains, “I’m not single, but Casey and I are just taking some space from each other because we’ve spent every single day together for a full year and a half and it’s not healthy. A lot of things were building up and we needed to just take some time out for ourselves.” And while she’s hopeful that she and Casey will soon be back on track, Marnie also admits that she’s scaled back her infamous partying as she gets older. She says, “I only go out every so often. But I try to limit it, because I’ll always have that Geordie wildness in me – that part of us will never change!”
