TAKE RESPONSIBILITY & FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!
A survey found that 84 per cent of us admit we could do much more with our lives, but we lack the drive. Emma says only we have the power to change, so explore your hobbies
Apathy is one of the A key reasons for unhappiness and dissatisfaction. It’s the cause of dreams never experienced, goals never reached and relationships stayed in long after they fulfilled us. Apathy steals time and enjoyment, and yet it is also incredibly common.
SAVE YOUR EXCUSES!
A recent survey found that 84 per cent of us admit we could do more with our lives, but we lack the ambition. A further 60 per cent blame society, arguing that we don’t, as a nation, encourage people to follow their dreams. Nearly half said a lack of confidence made them give up. I hear these excuses repeatedly in my therapy room, and I always challenge them, because it is my job to navigate my clients to emotional freedom, and that requires taking responsibility.
DECIDE WHAT YOU REALLY WANT
Thinking of “responsibility” as a negative and assuming that taking responsibility means you are being blamed for your disappointments can mean you remain stuck and unfulfilled. Seeing it as a way to be in the driving seat of your life will help you to progress to be happier and more satisfied. You have the power to live the life you want, and it begins when you decide to go for it! Ask yourself what your ideal life looks like, what you would do for a living, what your relationship would feel like and how you would fill your spare time. Then harness that positivity and make changes. If you have untapped talents (as a third of the people surveyed did), think how you can put them to use – as a career, sideline or a hobby.
FIND OPPORTUNITIES
If you’re crafty, make and sell on Etsy or Facebook, or at boot sales or local markets. If you’re musical, join a choir or offer to sing at weddings and parties. If you love taking pictures or doing make-up for friends, again offer to help out at celebrations. Or take a course in something you love and see where it takes you. Happiness is a by-product of what we do, so following your passions and pursuing your dreams is the best way to live a happy and fearless life. Go out there and grab a happier future.
