HELEN: ‘Having two babies is a handful!’
Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan tells Closer how breastfeeding has helped boost her confidence and why she won’t spoil her children S
he celebrated the birth of her second child, Delilah Ruby Sinclair, in June – and Helen Flanagan admits her home life has become chaotic. The 28-year-old Coronation Street actress – who got engaged to footballer Scott Sinclair, 29, in 2018 after nine years together – says that having a sister for three-year- old Matilda Jessica has sent her into a tailspin.
She laughs, “Having one is quite easy, but then having two is a completely different ball game! I’m running around all the time trying to keep up with them!”
The TV star wowed her fans by stepping out in a bikini just months after Delilah was born – showing that she was back to her slim size 8 figure. And Helen has credited breastfeeding for helping her to get back her figure naturally – rather than spending hours in the gym.
Now Helen says she loves breastfeeding in public and doesn’t understand why some people can find it taboo.
RUDE COMMENTS
She says, “I feel the more you breastfeed in public, the more your confidence grows. I don’t think it makes you a better mum if you breastfeed – a happy mummy is a happy baby whatever you decide to do. It’s just something I’m passionate about and I really love the bond it’s given me with my girls.
“I’ve only had one bad experience. Delilah was three weeks old and I was breastfeeding in Starbucks when the
girl opposite me started making rude comments to her boyfriend. I was quite shocked – I don’t understand why people feel so offended!”
And Helen – who became famous playing Rosie Webster in Coronation Street when she was just 11 – loves sharing aspects of motherhood on her Instagram account with her whopping 624K followers – and she insists online trolls won’t get her down, either.
“Fortunately, I don’t really take that much of it on board,” admits Helen – who is currently on maternity leave. “I have put up posts about how to wean your baby and there may be some people who might not necessarily agree with that, but I think people are always going to have those opinions.
“From being in the public eye since I was young, I am used to that sort of thing and it kind of goes over my head now!”
GROUNDED
And while Helen’s fiancé Scott is worth a reported £6 million, she says she’s raising the kids to be as grounded as possible.
She reveals, “I don’t really go that mad with presents for the kids’ birthdays and other events. I think it’s a bit daft and you don’t want to spoil them. Kids enjoy the simple things anyway!”
