COURTENEY: ‘Everything’s better since we broke off our engagement!’

-

Their long-distance romance has endured its fair share of ups and downs, with them breaking off their engagement in 2015 and reuniting the following year.

But Hollywood star Courteney Cox now admits the experience has made her relationship with Johnny Mcdaid even stronger.

Speaking on The Ellen Degeneres Show last week, Courteney, 54, said, “He’s not my fiancé. We were engaged to be married, but now we’re just together. We broke off our engagement, and he moved to England, then we got back together, and it’s actually better than it was before… Everything’s better. Not because he’s in London – although I think the distance after that break-up, we were apart for six months, really showed us a lot. It’s just better.”

La-based Courteney – who was previously married to David Arquette, with whom she shares daughter Coco, 14 – was introduced to Snow Patrol rocker Johnny, 42, in 2014 by their mutual pal Ed Sheeran. They got engaged six months later, but there were reports of issues ahead of their planned wedding in Derry, Northern Ireland, and they called it off in 2015.

Courteney – who was last week spotted in LA on a video call with Johnny – had previously revealed she’s “married in my heart” to Johnny and she joked to Ellen Degeneres about the cost of living so far apart, saying, “That’s an expensive relationship. We go back and forth a lot.”

Closer’s psychological therapist, Emma Kenny, says, “Sometimes the dynamics of a relationship can shift once you’re engaged – there’s a huge pressure that comes with it and there’s more expectation from each other. Any fears or insecurities about the relationship can be exaggerated. This may have happened for Courteney and Johnny – but after time apart, they realised that actually they do really like each other and just want to be together without the pressure.”
