COLEEN’S TERROR OVER A FUTURE WITHOUT WAYNE
As husband Wayne makes headlines again for boozing and partying, Coleen Rooney struggles with the idea of walking away
She was left furious in December when husband Wayne Rooney was arrested at a US airport for swearing and public intoxication. And insiders say Coleen Rooney has been pushed to breaking point after the footballer made headlines again last week following a 10-hour boozy bender with his teammates in Florida. He was allegedly seen engaging in a “cosy” chat with barmaid Vicki Rosiek, 32, during his night out, before they drove off in her car to another bar.
Wayne was reported to have knocked back shots until 2.30am, after being spotted using a cash machine outside a bar while Coleen was at their new home in Washington DC with their four sons, Kai, nine, Klay, five, Kit, three, and one-year-old Cass.
Days later, Coleen was spotted with four Valentine’s Day balloons – thought to be for her sons – which some fans saw as a dig at Wayne. And there were further reports that Coleen – who appeared to have removed her wedding ring and was set to jet off on holiday without Wayne as Closer went to press – had urged the footballer to consider rehab.
It’s not the first time Wayne’s been caught up in scandal after enjoying a big night out. As well as being arrested two months ago for being drunk at a US airport, he had previous form for drunken antics – gatecrashing a wedding in 2016 and boozing with stunned guests. And in 2017, he was fined and banned from the road for drink driving, after spending an evening with party girl Laura Simpson, who claimed they had hugged and kissed before he drove her car.
A source says, “Coleen’s distraught and understandably angry about Wayne being caught up in these new claims of partying and boozing. It’s hard never knowing what he might get up to on a night out with pals.
ULTIMATUMS
“Before they went out to the States, she laid down the law about not putting himself in these situations, but it seems he hasn’t listened. It feels like a betrayal – it’s tough for her because, behind closed doors, he’s a fantastic dad and she’s told friends he’s a loving husband, so she’s torn. But she’s told him before that partying and drinking could kill off their marriage.”
However, despite her repeated heartbreak and
humiliation, pals believe Coleen, 32, will struggle to walk away for good.
The pal adds, “There have been ultimatums, but her friends don’t think she can face following through with them as she’d hate the idea of tearing her family apart and starting a new life without him. She’s been with him since she was a teenager.
“Of course, when these slip-ups happen so regularly, it just makes her wonder if he’s listening to her. But the sad reality is, she’s more terrified of life without him than one where she worries about him letting her down.”
Wayne’s night out will likely bring back painful memories for Coleen of his drink driving arrest following the night out with party girl Laura – which saw him get slapped with a twoyear driving ban and 100 hours of community service.
Coleen – who was pregnant at the time – kept Wayne dangling for weeks by temporarily moving in with her parents and removing her wedding ring. But in November that same year, she publicly declared on Facebook that she was taking him back, insisting, “A few people are probably thinking I’m stupid for staying in my marriage. I’m not stupid, I know my own mind and it’s something I want to try and work on.”
Explaining her decision to remove her ring, she added, “I see it as a sign of commitment and I was unsure what was happening.”
TEMPTATION
And while Coleen had hoped their move as a family to Washington last summer – following Wayne’s transfer from Everton to D.C. United – signalled a chance for a fresh start, pals say she now fears it could have made things worse.
The source says, “Coleen was hoping their new life would be a chance for him to turn over a new leaf, and that he’d stay away from temptation. He’d agreed to rein it in a bit and try to avoid being pulled into boozy nights out with his team mates while he was away.
“But she now feels he’s acting out due to boredom. He finishes training at lunch time and has none of his mates around. She feels that when he does have the chance to let his hair down now, he really goes for it.
“It’s even harder for Coleen to deal with his behaviour in Washington as she doesn’t have her parents or friends close by. She’s not made many friends so she feels she’s alone with the boys when he’s travelling away with his team mates and feels constantly panicked about what he’ll do next.”
Coleen – whose mum Colette Mcloughlin was believed to have flown out to America last week to support her and “talk some sense” into Wayne – was a Liverpudlian schoolgirl when she was thrown into the spotlight after Wayne was signed to Everton aged 17.
MORTIFIED
But in 2004, she was left mortified by Wayne’s admission that he had slept with a 48-yearold gran in a brothel two years previously. He later publicly apologised after it emerged he’d had threesomes with prostitutes Helen Wood and Jenny Thompson in 2009 – when Coleen was pregnant with Kai.
Following Wayne’s 2017 arrest, Coleen confessed, “I love Wayne. If I didn’t then I wouldn’t want to make it work. I know I would be fine on my own with just me and my children, but I don’t want to live like that, I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family.”
The source adds, “Wayne’s the only man Coleen’s ever loved and she doesn’t know life without him. She hates the thought of being single or dating another man. And the idea of another woman coming into Wayne’s life and acting like a stepmum to her kids fills her with terror. Her parents are still happily married and so are Wayne’s. She’s traditional in that sense.
“Friends feel that even if she did announce a split, they’d likely find a way back to each other. She’s said in the past she married him for better or for worse, and her inner circle think she’ll stand by that vow, no matter what.”
