In 2015, Carol Santa Fe, from California, claimed to have married Santa Fe Station after being in love with it since she was nine years old. The volunteer support worker, 46, visits the building every day and even claims to have “sex” with it, calling herself an objectum sexual: someone who is sexually attracted to objects.

‘MY FIANCÉ IS A CHANDELIER’

Amanda Liberty, 34, from Leeds is engaged to a 91-year-old chandelier called Lumiere, and claims that it was love at first sight after she spotted the light fitting on ebay. Amanda first fell in love with a drum kit when she was eight and then New York's Statue of Liberty, before finding the light of her life.

In 2012, Linda Ducharme, then 55, married a ferris wheel she named Bruce. Linda first encountere­d the fairground ride in 1982, but it fell into disrepair. She tracked down Bruce to a Kansas scrapyard years later and rebuilt it. She said, “My goal is to spend the rest of my life and grow old with him.”

In 2015, Emma Mccabe, then 31, made headlines when she declared she was so in love with a poplar tree she’d named Tim that she planned to marry him.
