‘Arg is my only chance to have a family’

After their reconciliation, Gemma Collins admits that despite being on/off with Arg, he may be her one chance to become a mum

She threw James “Arg” Argent out of her house and ended their turbulent relationship last month, after he uploaded an unflattering video of her snoring on social media. And in a string of abusive messages she received from him in the fallout, he branded her a “fat, horrible lump”.

But last week, the pair proved all was forgiven as they enjoyed a trip in Paris. And insiders say that despite previously insisting she wouldn’t bring a baby into such a volatile romance, Gemma, 38, secretly fears Arg may be her only hope for motherhood.

INSECURE

A source says, “Gemma was determined to make Arg sweat, and knew something had to change. He made a series of grovelling apologies – and broke down in tears as he told her he couldn’t imagine life without her.

“Gemma tried to stay strong, but she’s told pals she can’t help loving him. She hopes he’ll change. She wants to get married and have kids more than anything, and she thinks that without Arg, that may never happen for her as she gets nearer to 40. She always thought she’d have kids by 30, and feels that time is slipping away. It’s not the situation she’d want to bring a child into, but she’s scared she may not find anyone else. She can’t help feeling Arg is her only chance to become a mum.”

Gemma’s been open about her desire for motherhood, recently saying, “I’ve made no secret of the fact I really want kids.”

LIFESTYLE OVERHAUL

Insiders say that despite their reconciliation, Gemma has laid down a strict set of rules for Arg, 31 – who entered rehab last year and recently revealed that despite being six months sober, he’d reached his heaviest weight.

The source adds, “Gemma’s said he needs to curb his temper, and if he can’t do that on his own, it’s something he needs to get help for. She’s said he’s no longer allowed to party without her, and that he needs to compliment her more to make her feel loved.

“Arg has vowed to overhaul his life and prove to Gemma he’s a responsible man and father figure. He’s already worked hard since leaving rehab, but knows he has a lot of issues he still needs to tackle. He’s told Gemma his weight makes him insecure and that’s what leads to his frustration. But he realises he needs to get healthier. Gemma originally said they’d try for a baby at the end of the year, but she’s told Arg they need to wait for him to sort himself out.”

During an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show last week, Gemma hinted at the ups and downs she and Arg had faced, admitting, “It’s just hard sometimes, but you never know what’s going to happen, things could be all right in the end.”

Last week also saw Gemma sensationally pull out of the Dancing On Ice final, after judge Jason Gardiner compared her to a “fridge” – leading her to brand him a “bully” on Instagram.

The source adds, “Gemma’s confidence has taken a knock in recent weeks, but she admitted to pals that she was grateful to have Arg by her side following Jason’s nasty comments. He’s promised to be there for her 100 per cent; he doesn’t want to risk losing her again.”
