MY TYPICAL DAY: ‘We watch Game of Thrones as a family’
IF I’M NOT TOURING, I GET UP AT 7AM.
I have Weetabix for breakfast, because I’m middle-aged and you’re told to eat it for your bowels. I’ve taken my doctor’s advice on that.
I’LL TRY TO BE AT MY DESK BY 9AM.
I have an office at home, where I sit and try to write material. I also have a music studio in my office. I play the drums, so I’ve created a set of infinite distractions for myself. Every day is a struggle to do some work! My band, Fat Cops, just put out a record so I can justify I’m working on that now, too.
LUNCH IS NORMALLY AROUND 12.30PM.
Although I might look at my watch and decide 11.55am is the time to start making lunch, and if I’m eating it at 12.05pm, then it’s still lunchtime. I eat something light, like pâté or salami on toast.
I SPEND THE AFTERNOON WRITING.
I might pop out to the shops to get some fresh air, too. People think stand-up is just getting up on stage and making people laugh, but it’s mainly writing at a desk.
I COOK A BIG MEAL FOR MY DAUGHTERS
[Scarlett, 19, and Willow, 15, with ex-wife Amber Hargreaves] when they’re staying with me. I like putting something in the slow cooker during the day so that it’s done in time for dinner.
WE’RE 100 PER CENT BOX-SET PEOPLE.
We’re watching True Detective and have just binged our way through Das Boot. My daughters and I are waiting for Game Of Thrones to return. It’s our family viewing. Al Murray’s Great British Pub Quiz airs Thursdays at 10pm on Quest
