Heidi on wedding No3: “The kids can’t wait for me to marry again”

Supermodel Heidi Klum reveals her big day plans and why she knew she’d say ‘I do’ to toyboy Tom Kaulitz from the very start…

She announced her engagement to toyboy boyfriend Tom Kaulitz last Christmas – and Heidi Klum says that no one is more excited about her upcoming wedding than her children.

The supermodel, 45, reveals that daughters Leni, 14, and Lou, nine, and sons Henry, 13, and Johan, 12, all love her new man, adding, “The kids adore Tom. They can’t wait for the wedding! They’ll be very involved in it all.”

SHOCK SPLIT

Her upcoming nuptials will mark Heidi’s third trip down the aisle. After her five-year marriage to Ric Pipino ended in 2002, Heidi married singer Seal in 2005 and they had children Henry, Johan and Lou together.

But Heidi, whose daughter Leni is from a previous romance, and Seal parted ways in a shock split in 2012, with the singer claiming she’d had an affair with the family bodyguard – something she denied.

And the TV star says that despite her two failed marriages, she was ready to marry Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom, 29 – who proposed 10 months into their romance – on the day the pair first met.

She smiles, “We met in February 2018 – and honestly I would have married him that day, probably! I was surprised when he asked, but I was kind of thinking it was going to go that way because we just clicked. It was bizarre because, when we just met each other, it was like we were already married. I never thought I was going to say ‘Yes’ again, but I did. He’s the sweetest, kindest man.”

Heidi is now in the midst of wedding planning and while she keeps tight-lipped about the details, she says that her pal and former America’s Got Talent co-judge Mel B will definitely be on the guestlist.

She says, “We’ve set a date for the wedding but we haven’t planned much yet because we’ve been so busy. We’ve got a lot to do! Mel will of course be getting an invite – she’s always been a great friend to me.”

German-born Heidi cemented herself as one of the world’s top models in the late nineties, gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated and starring in the Victoria’s Secret fashion shows for over a decade. As well as her success in the fashion world, she’s also branched out into the TV industry, launching her own TV show, Project Runway, and being a judge on AGT for the past six years.

And nearly 20 years on from her iconic Sports Illustrated cover, Heidi looks as amazing as ever – but says she works hard to maintain her gorgeous physique and flawless skin.

BODY CONFIDENCE

She explains, “I eat really healthily, starting out with smoothies in the morning, and I have my last meal at 6pm. When you eat on the earlier side, it has time to digest and that’s better for your body. Having four children means I cook from scratch a lot.

When you eat out, it’s tricky because you don’t know what people are putting in the food. I also exfoliate my skin all the time and wear a lot of sunscreen.”

And Heidi even admits that her family used to take her to nudist beaches to give her a healthy view of her own body.

She said previously, “I grew up in a very free environment with my parents. We’d go to nude beaches. We’re very open-minded, but you can’t say that about all Germans. We didn’t have a lot of money, so we’d go camping a lot and my parents chose nude campsites, so nudity became normal for me. You stand out more if you cover up in places like that. I loved it. I grew up very comfortable with my body and very free.”

FAMILY & CAREER

While she’s a successful model, TV star and has also designed clothes, Heidi says her most important job is being a mum – and that she thinks her children may be destined for a life in the spotlight, too.

She says, “It’s hard to find a balance [between career and family] but I’m not the only mother who has a hard time with that. I love being a mum. My youngest daughter Lou is really musically gifted – she actually performed with Seal before, in front of 16,000 people. She just rocked it and she wasn’t even nervous.”

And although her career is heavily focused on aesthetics, Heidi adds that she tries to make sure her kids know that they shouldn’t focus too much on the way they look.

She says, “There’s so much make-up and contouring these days, it’s hard to keep up! But when Leni is playing with make-up in the mirror, I always say, ‘You’re gorgeous. You don’t need to pile on the make-up.’ I try to help them understand they look great the way they are.”
