And insiders say Cheryl, 36, was left annoyed again after her ex, Liam Payne, insisted he found it hard to control the number of presents bought for their two-year-old son Bear. During a recent interview, he revealed, “I couldn’t believe it when I walked in on Christmas Day. I’ve never seen so many presents in my life for one very small child. I was like, ‘How the hell do I explain to him this isn’t normal, that doesn’t happen for everyone?’”

Earlier this year, Cheryl admitted she had been the one to spoil their son Bear at Christmas by “going a bit nuts” on presents – and sources say she found Liam’s recent comments a bit of a dig.
A source reveals, “Cheryl wants to co-parent with Liam as amicably as possible. She can’t help but spoil Bear on big occasions and dotes on him. Liam’s feelings on Bear having too many presents felt like a private conversation that should have stayed between the two of them. It was a bit of a shock to discover he felt that way so long after Christmas. She was furious he hadn’t spoken to her about it first.”
His comments follow accusations from fans online that Liam made a dig at Cheryl when he praised his girlfriend Maya Henry, 19, in another interview. The former 1D singer described Maya as being “more relaxed” than former girlfriends – insisting, “Yeah, she’s awesome… it’s kind of got to the point with my life, where I’m like, ‘Screw this. It’s not worth my happiness’.
“If someone is going to take a picture, someone is going to do something. The difference is, with her, she’s so relaxed that it helps me relax in a situation… It’s been quite nice just going out.”
Fans were quick to lash out at Liam’s apparent jibe at Cheryl – who is notoriously private and was rarely photographed during the pair’s romance. One wrote, “Not acceptable to disrespect your child’s other parent – doubly so to do it publicly,” while another waded in to defend the former Girls Aloud star, saying, “Any man worth his salt would never publicly throw shade, thinly veiled or not, at the mother of his child.”

Now sources say that while Cheryl doesn’t feel Liam meant any malice, she wishes he would be more careful. A source says, “Cheryl was left a bit stung by Liam’s comments and then embarrassed, especially when she’s been so careful to show him respect since their split. She just can’t understand why Liam can’t keep a lid on things. She’s told him he needs to be more careful with his choice of words when discussing Maya and not make it seem as though he’s comparing the two of them, or painting her as the bad guy.”
Just two weeks ago, Liam raised eyebrows when he posted a photo of girlfriend Maya and thanked her for “making me realise how perfect my life really is.” One fan wrote, “I feel sorry for Cheryl,” and another added, “He could be more respectful to Cheryl.”
In 2017, Liam admitted how his motormouth often got him into trouble during his relationship with the notoriously private singer, saying, “I do get a bit overexcited sometimes. I’ll go home and she’ll say, ‘What did you say that for?’”
The source says, “Cheryl’s main priority is to continue co-parenting Bear amicably. She doesn’t want to make a big deal out of Liam’s candid chat, it’s just frustrating for her as she’s had a conversation with Liam about this and tried to rein him in a bit. Liam has insisted he’s never ever intended to hurt her and he’s promised to think first before he speaks.”
