‘Women will feel valued’

-

Dr Larisa Corda, an obstetrician and gynaecologist, is a leading fertility expert. She says, “At work, women sometimes feel like they can’t discuss pregnancy or children, for fear it could hinder their progression.

“But by offering egg freezing as a work benefit, Goldman Sachs is opening the conversation, allowing women to think about family planning, and showing they are valued.

“Not only that, egg freezing takes the pressure off. We’re all too aware that our fertility declines as we get older, which means we feel the pressure to find the perfect man to settle down with by the age of 35.

“Egg freezing may not be appropriate for everyone, and it’s important for women not to be misled and think freezing eggs will guarantee a baby. But if a female employee does decide to do it, they meet with a fertility specialist who would discuss their reproductive health and individual chances of success with them, almost like a fertility MOT. They would have enough information to make educated choices. It can help women who aren’t ready to start families yet, but wish to give themselves the best possible chance later in life.

“Between 2010 and 2017, around 700 babies were born through frozen eggs in the UK. This allows women to feel in control and less panicked by the future as a result, too.

“As long as egg freezing is offered – not forced upon – female employees, I think it’s a positive move. You can have a successful career, and enjoy motherhood too.”
