On-screen, they were lifelong pals who discovered a mutual romantic attraction – and now insiders insist that actor Matthew Perry “has been in love” with his Friends co-star Courteney Cox for years.
The claim comes amid reports that a Friends reunion is in the works, with Courteney, 55, unleashing a fan frenzy when she posted a selfie with Matthew last week, captioned, “Guess who I had lunch with today… I KNOW!! Could I BE any happier?”
Rumours of the actor’s enduring devotion were fuelled by one source telling an American magazine that Matthew, 50, has “always been in love” with his on-screen wife and had never “fully been able to get over her”.
September marked the 25th anniversary of the premiere of the sitcom. And despite the rubbishing of claims that the pair briefly dated in 2015 following Courteney’s temporary split from her current partner, Snow Patrol rocker Johnny McDaid, fans are rooting for a romance.
“Aww the best couple ever,” wrote one on Courteney’s Instagram page, while another commented, “You two are just so perfect for each other.”
During their Friends heyday, Matthew had short-lived romances with Baywatch actress Yasmine Bleeth and A-Lister Julia Roberts. He dated True Blood star Lizzy Caplan from 2006 to 2012, but has remained single since their split.
Courteney, meanwhile, married her Scream co-star David Arquette – with whom she shares daughter Coco, 15 – changing her name to Courteney Cox Arquette until their divorce in 2013.
