Coleen Rooney is furious Wayne hasn’t put a stop to the backlash after his pal Robbie Williams and Piers Morgan side with Rebekah Vardy in the infamous WAGatha Christie scandal
The now iconic War of the
WAGs gathered momentum last week when bigname celebrities waded into the bitter spat between Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy.
And Coleen, 33, who is said to be desperate to move past the scandal, was dealt a fresh blow when Piers Morgan shared a selfie with Rebekah, 37 – who has furiously denied Coleen’s allegations that she sold stories from her private Instagram account – poking fun at Coleen by using her now-famous caption, “It’s… Rebekah Vardy”.
Meanwhile, Robbie Williams, who is a longtime pal of
Coleen’s husband Wayne, gave an interview calling out Coleen’s online sleuthing as “a dangerous game to play”, adding, “I understand Coleen’s need for revenge, and I probably would have done the same, but we have to be careful – it’s suicide-causing, provoking those levels of shame.”
Sources tell Closer that Coleen has been left “stunned and upset” by the support for Rebekah – who is eight months pregnant.
The insider reveals, “While Coleen expected a backlash from Rebekah’s friends and family, she didn’t expect the likes of Robbie and Piers to get involved. She is starting to believe she’s becoming public enemy number one and doesn’t know what’s coming next.”
TAKEN TO TASK
Wayne, 34, and Robbie, 45, have been pals for years – the singer gifted Wayne one of his Brit Awards and Wayne appeared in a documentary honouring the former Take That star in 2016.
Coleen sparked fresh speculation into her marriage last month when she failed to join Wayne and their sons Kai, 10, Klay, six, Kit, three, and Cass, one, on a family trip to Barbados. Two weeks ago, Coleen posted a snap of her and Wayne enjoying a date night – the first time they’ve been pictured together in three months
– but sources tell Closer the move was more Coleen’s way of keeping up appearances.
The source says, “Coleen immediately took Wayne to task over why he’s allowing people like Robbie to comment publicly. Not once has Wayne defended her since this all began, and she’s had enough of him staying quiet – especially as it’s his friends who are now getting involved. With so much negativity around her right now, Coleen can’t face more intrusion into her marriage again. She posted the snap to silence critics and to hide the truth about her marriage that she is hurt and feels betrayed that Wayne hasn’t defended her. He says he doesn’t want to get involved in the drama.”
Last week, Rebekah cryptically posted, “Allow your enemies their space to hate; they will destroy themselves in the process.” And it seems as though the tide has begun to turn against Coleen since she was initially lauded for her detective work, where she planted fake stories on her Instagram, gaining her the nickname WAGatha Christie. But now support has increasingly switched to Rebekah as the public has also
called for Coleen to release the evidence she said she had collected.
One fan wrote online, “Coleen started off saying she had evidence so she was confident to name and shame. Becky has now denied it, so why hasn’t Coleen released her evidence? Hmmmm.” Another agreed, “If you throw accusations, then you should be the one to back it up. So where is Coleen’s evidence? It’s up to her to prove her claim, not for Rebekah to prove otherwise. It seems Coleen might not be so confident as she made out she was and there are a lot of people out there who will have to say sorry to Rebekah!!”
PUBLIC SHAMING
Others agreed with Robbie, saying, “Robbie is correct. It’s a dreadful world that we live in now where public shaming is the norm even for trivial things.” Another wrote, “I have to say I agree. Why didn’t she just block her, let her know in private why she was blocking her and leave it at that?”
The source says, “Friends wouldn’t be surprised if Coleen now regrets her actions, as they seem to have backfired. She thinks Wayne could put a stop to it and reach out to his 15million Instagram followers to get people on her side. She has always been incredibly loyal to him and the first time she’s needed him he hasn’t been there for her.”
