She broke down on stage as she accepted her NTA award for her BBC Three documentary Odd One
Out, thanking her boyfriend of one year, Chris Hughes, for “bringing me up every day and making me feel confident”.
But Jesy Nelson’s big win was marred by her partner after he attacked a paparazzo outside the after-party, leading to a police investigation being launched. A shocking five-minute video emerged showing Chris angrily approaching the photographer, claiming he’d called him a rude name. He started punching and kicking the man, as others intervened. Chris can then be heard ranting, “Why have you called me a p****? I’m a nice guy. I’m from the Cotswolds.”
Chris, 27, then got into a cab with his girlfriend and her friend – but Jesy looked unimpressed. Police confirmed they are launching an investigation into the brawl. Speaking to Closer on the red carpet earlier that evening, the pair seemed loved-up, with Jesy, 28, saying she was in a “happier place” now she’s with Chris, adding, “I’ve also got a much better relationship with social media now,” in reference to her past struggles with online trolls. Former Love Island star Chris apologised in a statement the next day, writing of his “regret” and explaining he reacted in “selfdefence”. He added, “This night was about Jesy’s win and I am sorry if I distracted anyone from this. I’m the proudest boyfriend ever and want to congratulate my amazing girlfriend for a deserving win. I am proud of you.”
A few days later, Jesy threw her support behind her boyfriend, posting a picture of the pair at the event with two love hearts.
