They’ve faced the toughest tests over more than two decades together, but pals say Victoria Beckham is intent on proving her marriage is far from unravelling...
Their 20-year marriage has weathered its fair share of storms – with reports of rows, rifts and cheating claims. But Victoria Beckham’s relationship with husband David seems to have not only survived but thrived, despite the scandals.
They appeared like a pair of honeymooners as they kissed and cuddled on a visit to the temporary new home of
David’s Miami football team last week, just days before the couple and their four kids announced they’d be socially isolating at home due to coronavirus. In a series of snaps (right), David protectively wrapped his arms around a relaxed and beaming Posh.
The loved-up snapshots come just a week after the couple’s besotted displays on the dance floor during their eldest son Brooklyn’s 21st birthday party, which Posh, 45, shared with fans in a series of images posted to Instagram. In one, she is seen throwing her arms around her 44-year-old husband as he cheekily grabs her bum – finally seeming to silence critics who had previously pointed out their apparent lack of sexual chemistry.

In a rare insight into the secret of how she keeps the spark alive in her marriage after two decades together, Posh recently joked about her and David’s healthy sex life, responding “Oh, don’t worry about that!” in a US TV interview. It’s a complete turnaround for the couple. Only last year, they were forced to shoot down divorce rumours, with reports of fall-outs over David’s partying while away from home, him being snapped with other women, and the pair appearing cold and distant towards one another in public – fuelling speculation of a rift.
And while pals have previously told Closer their relationship had been strengthened by a set of new marriage rules, insiders say it’s a subtle shift in their dynamic – instigated by the former Spice Girl – which has ultimately reignited their spark.
The source says, “Vic found all the speculation that she and David were about to split quite hurtful and embarrassing. It’s made her take a closer look at her relationship and the way they interact with one another.
“They sat down together and had a real heart-to-heart, and instead of stressing and letting the tension build, the opposite has happened – Vic has let her guard down and become a lot more relaxed, and David’s loving it!

“She may give the impression in public of being fairly serious and never smiling, but in reality Vic’s really warm and funny – and she’s allowed that side of herself to come out.
“Combined with other changes, like organising breaks alone and scheduling date nights, she feels they’ve been able to reconnect and rediscover each other. David’s also been really touched by how supportive she’s been over his new football venture in Miami and in return he’s been determined to show how much he appreciates her.”
Their marriage came under intense scrutiny in the run-up to their 20th anniversary last July, with past scandals, including David’s alleged affair in 2003 with his former PA, Rebecca Loos – something he described as “ludicrous” when the scandal hit the tabloids in 2004 – being dragged up again online. Eyebrows were also raised last October when David described his marriage as “hard work”.
But Posh – who also shares Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper, eight, with the former footballer – has gone all-out to prove the doubters wrong, documenting their happy family life with regular updates on Instagram. In her 2002 documentary
Being Victoria Beckham, the singer-turned-designer gave an insight into her feelings for David when she candidly admitted she would “die of a broken heart” if her husband ever left her.
And while sources say her devotion to David runs deep, she recently chose to take a different tack with him
– which has paid dividends.
The source says, “Vic adores David, that’s clear to see, but it has bothered her in the past that it sometimes looked as if she was the only one making the effort. By pulling back a bit, it’s given David room to make a play for her.
“Vic’s always been glamorous but she’s developed a more relaxed style lately – tight-fitting sportswear, dressed-down jeans and trainers, tousled hair – and David finds it all incredibly sexy.
“He can’t keep his hands off her and it’s done her confidence a world of good. She’s told pals she’s the happiest she’s ever been. She’s thrilled they’re in such a good place right now.”
