Jordan: “I was going to kill myself – I thought of ways to do it”
On a shocking new episode of her reality show, the mum of five reveals how she hit rock bottom – but a hospital stay and therapy have put her on the road to recovery
She’s faced a lifetime’s worth of drama in the last few years alone – with her third divorce, kidnap threats, the death of four pets, time in rehab, a bad break-up and being declared bankrupt.
And now Jordan – real name Katie Price – tragically reveals that the events of last year and earlier this year culminated in her reaching her darkest moment and contemplating suicide.
In a special episode of her reality show, My Crazy Life, Jordan says, “There was only so much I could take as a human being. It got to the point where I just wanted to kill myself. I started to lose everything around me and I just couldn’t cope with it.”
SELF-MEDICATING
Jordan, 41, had been on a downward spiral since her split from third husband Kieran Hayler in the summer of 2018 – the same year her mum Amy, who she has always described as her “rock”, was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease. The star resorted to self-medicating with wild partying, booze and – as she now admits – cocaine, over the following months.
The mum of five was in and out of rehab for post traumatic stress disorder in 2019, but seemed more content when she began dating fitness trainer Kris Boyson, 31. However, the pair split in December amid cheating allegations from both sides.
Last week, viewers watched Jordan breaking down while doing a task on challenge show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins – which was filmed last October, in the midst of her issues and just after she’d had her tenth boob job – and explaining that she had just received her fifth kidnap threat.
The former glamour model recently told Closer she was struggling during filming due to things going on in her personal life, explaining, “I was going through a really bad place mentally when I did the show.”
Then, in December, things got worse when she was declared bankrupt. The culmination of these various problems resulted in her considering taking her own life.
She reveals, “Everything just got to me. The break-up with Kris, the bankruptcy stuff… The trigger point was me waking up and realising my dog had been run over and killed… It got to the point where I was going to kill myself. I had thoughts of how I was going to do it.”
BREAKDOWN
Thankfully, Jordan – who has Harvey, 17, with ex footballer Dwight Yorke; Junior, 14, and Princess, 12, with ex-husband Peter Andre; and Jett, six, and Bunny, five, with Kieran – found the strength to ask for help, and credits her children as being the motive to stay alive.
She checked herself into a mental health clinic for four weeks earlier this year, and speaking on the show, she says, “The only reason I’m still sitting here now is because of my children. I’ve learnt to step back, breathe, acknowledge it and act in the right way. I see the doctors now every week for a year, which is good. The four weeks taught me a lot, so now I’m on the road to recovery.”
Jordan believes she was heading for a breakdown for a decade – since splitting with first husband Peter Andre, whom she has previously called the love of her life.
When Closer attended her make-up masterclass in London last month – weeks after her rehab stint – she appeared calm, content and collected, and in a better place than she had been. And speaking at the end of her show, filmed in lockdown
while she currently stays in a rented property with her friend, Dreamboy stripper Al Warrell – whom she’s denied dating – she says she feels happier and confident she’ll get back to her old self.
She says, “I’ve been slowly going off the rails for just over ten years. At times I’ve been a mess. I’ve been to hell and back, but four weeks in hospital and some intense therapy – that will continue for the rest of my life – has got me back to being me. “I’m loving getting settled in my new place. Try to enjoy lockdown – use it as an advantage, like we are, to switch off, appreciate life, and focus on good things coming up.” By Lily Smith
