Jordan: “My problems were caused by men – I’ll stay single until I find Mr Right”
In a revealing interview with fans, Jordan confides the shocking depths of her recent troubles – and how she fought back from wanting to take her own life
She shocked fans after bravely revealing that she had contemplated suicide earlier this year, saying that a culmination of traumatic events and financial troubles had left her at her lowest point.
And speaking to her 2.1million Instagram followers last week, Jordan opened up in detail about her mental health journey, in an attempt to help others with their own struggles,
The famously feisty and outspoken star exposed a more vulnerable side in an Instagram Live Q&A, as she told how she had lived life
“in denial” for months, turning to partying as a distraction from her personal issues.
She said, “I let myself down. I was at nightclubs, having drinks, showing myself up on the microphone. I put on this front – it was exhausting. I was saying, ‘I’m okay’, when I really wasn’t… I was destroying myself, my friends, my career and everything around me. Now I realise I’m not afraid to be who I am, I’m not afraid to let people in.”
Mum-of-five Jordan – real name Katie Price – has endured a series of major issues in her personal life over the last few years, including her split from third husband Kieran Hayler, her mum Amy’s terminal lung disease diagnosis, the death of four pets, drug use (she admitted she used cocaine to cope with stress), and financial problems, having been declared bankrupt last December.
WAKE-UP CALL
Offering advice to those struggling amid the coronavirus lockdown, Jordan – who is mum to Harvey, 17, with ex-footballer Dwight Yorke; Junior, 14, and Princess, 12, with ex-husband Peter Andre; and Jett, six, and Bunny, five, with Kieran – movingly recalled how she reached her darkest moment in February.
She said, “I’m sure a lot of you at the moment may be struggling. I hit rock bottom more than I’m letting on – really bad. The day I went into the Priory, on 19 February, I wanted to hang myself.
“The reason I didn’t is because of my children.
It was a wake-up call. Afterwards, I was like,
‘Kate, what are you doing to yourself?’”
Thankfully, Jordan’s loved ones rallied around her and urged her to seek treatment at the Priory – where she had previously sought help to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder in 2019.
Speaking of her five weeks’ treatment with specialists at the Priory, she said, “I didn’t want to go. I said to my family and friends, ‘If you make me go, I will never talk to you again’. But it was the best thing I ever did… Everything I thought I couldn’t cope with, I spoke about. “
During her emotional Instagram Live chat, a fan asked what advice Jordan would pass on, having overcome her suicidal thoughts.
The former model replied, “If there’s anyone listening who thinks ‘I can’t cope with my life, nothing’s going right’, just remember you’re alive and you’re here. Make the most of it. I could have been hanging, dead. But I’m not and now
I’m in such a better place. My children have me here, and my career will be booming. Always talk – talk about how you’re feeling. That’s what I did.”
AVOIDING MEN
Jordan’s tumultuous love life has dominated the headlines over the years. Most recently, she split from personal trainer Kris Boyson in December, with rumours swirling last month that she’d begun dating Dreamboys stripper Al Warrell, after the pair were pictured together in lockdown.
But during her Instagram Live chat, she insisted she’s happily single and avoiding men, after concluding that her mental health issues had stemmed from her relationships with them in the past.
She said, “I’m very much single – I’m in no relationship. Al, who’s living with me, is training me, looking after me and Harvey, and driving me about, because I’m banned from driving. There is definitely no romance there.
“I’ve realised that a lot of my mental health problems have always been caused by men. From a young age, lots of things have happened to me – if you’ve read my books, you’d know. It’s always been men in my life… which is why I’ve decided to stay single until the right prince comes along. I want to be a strong, independent businesswoman and focus on my career and children.”
She added that, after years of vicious spats with ex-husbands Peter and Kieran – along with Kieran’s new fiancée Michelle
Pentecost having a restraining order against her – all is now well between her and her exes.
She added, “Believe it or not, Pete’s actually been quite supportive. To be honest, the dads have been good. Kieran is a fantastic dad – he’s been homeschooling the kids during this coronavirus. He was a s**t husband, but he’s really good with the kids.”
CHEATING
Jordan also addressed her recent split from fiancé Kris, whom she dated for a year, and appeared to hint that she had in fact cheated on him.
Kris is now dating her former friend Bianca Gascoigne – and while she implied she wanted to say more about her thoughts on their relationship, she instead wished them all the best.
She said, “Well, all I’m going to say is I thought I was going to marry Kris. I feel really gutted with what I did to Kris, while I was with him. I had my reasons, but if I could turn back the clock, I would never have done what I did to him.
“It made me realise that, when we were engaged, it was probably never meant to be, because he’s found happiness with someone else. And I know Bianca, and I just wish them well. There’s nothing I can do about it, but I wish them a happy future.”
