Although she was said to have complained about having “the worst week of her life” after coming under fire for using taxpayers’ money to furlough her staff – a decision she has since reversed – Victoria Beckham is comforted by the lockdown strengthening her marriage. According to close friends, Posh, 46, credits husband, David, 45, with helping her weather the recent storm, and their renewed closeness has made her appreciate their 20-year marriage more than ever.
The source says, “It’s no secret Vic was left in tears following the backlash over the furlough blip, but having David there making her laugh has really lifted her spirits. Instead of dwelling on the negatives,
David has tried to keep the mood at home light by playing pranks on Vic and the kids, and giving her space when she needs it by taking the younger ones out on their bikes or for walks. He’s really stepped up to support her in every way he can. She may be going through a difficult patch professionally, but being in such a good place in her marriage makes everything else pale in comparison. It may sound cliché, but spending more time with her family has made her realise what’s important in life.”
Last week, Posh – who is known for her love of structured suits and high necklines – showed off a sexier look in a pair of hotpants with tousled hair. And sources recently told Closer how Posh had relaxed her style, now favouring tightfitting sportswear, which “David finds incredibly sexy”.
Since isolating at their Cotswolds mansion alongside their three youngest children, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15 and eightyear-old Harper, the couple have been giving fans a glimpse into their humorous side with a series of Instagram posts, with David teasing his wife by drawing a penis on her new marigold gloves, and the former Spice girl mocking him for neatly folding his clothes before bed.
Just last week, Cruz shared a snap of his mum flashing her pearly whites with a rare big smile, which prompted the former footballer to liken his wife to “Ross from Friends”, in reference to the infamous sitcom episode where David Schwimmer’s character mistakenly bleaches his teeth to a blinding white.
The past two decades haven’t been without hurdles. Several cheating claims, and reports of the pair being cold and distant towards one another in public, fuelled rumours of a rift. But sources say the couple owe their longevity to their deep-rooted friendship. The source says, “The lockdown’s reminded them why they fell in love. Victoria has a great sense of humour, which really attracted David early on in their relationship. Now that they have more downtime together, they’ve let their guards down and are laughing together more. It’s been the best medicine for them.”
