LOSING A PARENT IS SO HARD, AND FOR IT TO HAPPEN IN THIS WAY IS DEVASTATING

They endured a turbulent relationship, but Liz Hurley broke her silence last week on the sudden death of her ex-partner and father to her son, describing herself as “saddened beyond belief”.

The tragic news that Hollywood producer Steve Bing, 55, had died after falling from the 27th floor of his apartment block in LA in a suspected suicide made headlines around the world.

Elizabeth, 55, and multimillionaire filmmaker Steve, dated for 18 months in 2000, but broke up when she became pregnant and he denied he was Damian’s dad. Alongside posting previously unseen photos of the pair, Liz wrote an emotional tribute, poignantly revealing they’d last spoken on their son’s 18th birthday in April, saying, “I am saddened beyond belief that my ex Steve is no longer with us. It is a terrible end.

“Our time together was very happy and I’m posting these pictures because although we went through some tough times, it’s the good, wonderful memories of a sweet, kind man that matter.”

While Steve and Damian reportedly never met, Liz revealed she and her ex – who was said to have suffered from depression and had struggled with being in isolation amid the pandemic – had become “close again”.

Damian – who has reportedly been left a large sum of money in a trust fund – took to Instagram to thank fans for their support, adding that it was “a very strange and confusing time”. Closer’s psychological therapist Emma Kenny says, “Losing a parent is immensely hard, and for it to happen in such a tragic way is devastating. Damian didn’t appear to have been close to his dad, which can make feelings of loss even harder.

“Liz has said they had grown closer, so Damian may have felt optimistic about building a relationship, and missed opportunities can be painful.”

Things had turned sour between the couple following their split, when

Liz became embroiled in one of Hollywood’s most high-profile paternity cases – with her ex later announcing he’d pay £100,000 a year into a trust after a DNA test confirmed Damian was his son.

Emma adds, “It’s clear Liz and

Damian are both devastated. Therapy can be very healing in this situation”
