The mum of four, 46, says PCOS left her with irregular periods, bad skin and struggles with infertility. In 2008, shortly before having youngest child Harper, she said, “When someone would ask, ‘Are you pregnant?’ I’d dodge the question, but now I reply, ‘Actually, I’m struggling with infertility because of PCOS – my husband and I have been through several fertility treatments.”

The Glee star, 33 – who is pregnant with her first child – was diagnosed after experiencing severe acne and fluctuating weight in her late twenties. She said, “The side-effects can be brutal, but through diet I have been able to manage my symptoms. But I’m very fortunate. There are more extreme versions of PCOS that women have a lot of difficulty with.”

Singer Louise, 45, has two children with ex-husband Jamie, but she once admitted, “I remember everyone asking me, ‘You’ve been married five years, why haven’t you had babies?’ Eventually, I got sick of it and said, ‘Actually, we can’t.’ And now I’m a living example for other women with fertility issues – I was told I probably wouldn’t have kids and now I have two healthy boys.”
