‘If my man wanted to leave to start a family, I’ d give my blessing’

-

Her eight-year marriage to actor Tom Ellis, 41, fell apart in 2014, after he admitted to cheating on her while filming in the US. But former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite found love again four years later with actor and personal trainer Tom Child. Despite their 21-year age gap, Tamzin, 49, and Tom, 28, have been happily dating since 2018, with the actress admitting, “The only opinions that matter are my two girls (Florence, twelve, and Marnie, eight with ex Tom) and if they adore him, which they do… that’s all I need.”

But last week Tamzin raised eyebrows when she revealed that, if it came to it, she’d give her younger man her “blessing” to leave if he wants kids of his own. She said, “After my experiences in life, I don’t think I think everything is always forever. He hates me saying this, but if, in a couple of years, he really wanted kids I would give him my blessing. I don’t feel like he has to be here forever. I’m just having a lovely time.”

EMMA SAYS, “Tamzin’s right – she’s showing that she understands how holding someone back, or preventing them from achieving a life goal, won’t make for a happy relationship. If you deny someone who really wants a family just that, then your relationship is likely to turn toxic. You can’t shift someone’s desires, because they could end up resenting you for it. Tamzin clearly feels very secure in her relationship to say that, which is great. In practice, though, it would be hard to apply. I think she feels like he never would – but if it came to it, it would no doubt be heartbreaking. Break-ups where you split because of differing life goals, rather than any incompatibility, can be the hardest.”
