‘I wanted to portray the perfect life… I was just acting’

She shot to fame as the airhead heiress, but there’s much more to Paris Hilton, as she exposes the abuse from her past in a new documentary…

- By Daisy McLure

She became a celebrity aged 19 in 2003 after starring in hit reality show

The Simple Life, alongside best friend Nicole Richie. A sex tape followed, released by her ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon without her permission, and launched Paris Hilton into further notoriety. There seemed to be little we didn’t know about her – or so we thought.

She was the notorious noughties ‘It’ girl heiress to the Hilton empire with her own catchphrase, “That’s Hot.”

But now, in a shocking new YouTube documentary, This Is Paris, set to air this month, socialite Paris lifts the lid on her charmed life to reveal the heartwrenching abuse she endured at boarding school and throughout early relationships. In the documentary the star bravely details how she was beaten and forced to take prescription drugs at a correctional boarding school, where her parents sent her aged 16 after she began sneaking out of her former school to go clubbing.

TERRIFYING ABUSE

Paris also claims the facility monitored her calls and letters and she was locked in a cell for an entire day and night on more than one occasion during her 11-month stay. Paris says, “It was just terrifying to be in a place every day where people who work there were sadistic and wanted to torture and hurt children. I don’t wish that on anyone.

“The staff would say, ‘You spoilt, rich brat, no one loves you, no one cares about you,’” she says now. “They love to break you down as much as possible.” She adds that there is “no blame” aimed at her parents and they are still close.

But as a result, Paris now suffers with anxiety, depression and trust issues as well as recurring nightmares, something that prompted her to share the experience. But that’s not all. In an interview last week, she revealed that the emotional scars led her to some terrifying relationships with abusive men at a young age, one of whom strangled her.

FAMILY PLANNING

Paris – who has been engaged three times – admitted, “I just wanted love so bad that I was willing to accept being hit or yelled at or screamed at or strangled, or a lot of things.” She added, “I always wanted to portray, ‘I’m so happy with the perfect life, the perfect boyfriend’, but I never truly felt that. I was just acting.”

She’s now happily in love with her boyfriend, tech mogul Carter Reum, 39, who she’s been dating since November, and after telling Closer last year that she’d love to have kids, she reveals childhood friend and mum-of-four Kim Kardashian, 39, encouraged her to freeze her eggs.

“She [Kim] introduced me to her doctor, and I was so inspired by her to actually do it. I think every woman should do it because you can really control it and not have that, ‘Oh my God, I need to get married.’”

Despite previous high-profile bust ups with Nicole Richie – who she says is now “like a sister” – and Kim, Paris is now very much back in their lives, but she’s striving to keep up with Kim and make $1billion. Only this time, it’s on her own terms.

She said, “I’m so used to portraying the perfect Barbie doll life – but now I want to show the true boss babe that I am.”
