THIS NOSE SPRAY GIVES PROTECTION
According to research, a nasal treatment can create a barrier against COVID for five hours
Research has shown that a nasal spray called Taffix (£52 for a pack of four, Taffixprotect.co.uk), blocks coronavirus for up to five hours. People used the spray before a mass participation event and it reduced their chances of catching the virus by 78 per cent. Lab studies have also revealed that after exposure to the active ingredients in Taffix, live virus cells were reduced by 99.99 per cent. The co-founder and chief executive officer of the company that makes the nasal spray, Dr Dalia Megiddo, said that squirting the spray up your nostrils isn’t a replacement for masks, but said it could give people an “additional layer of protection, which is particularly useful in high-risk settings such as public transport, shops and schools – basically any enclosed space.”
It might also be something that people in areas with high numbers of cases may want to try, to feel safer when they inevitably have to take public transport to work, or do the food shop. This “barrier approach” works because cells inside the nose are often where the virus enters the body when infected people cough, sneeze or speak.
It acts within 50 seconds and protects you for up to five hours. The active ingredients form a gel barrier and lower the pH levels in your nose to a point where most respiratory viruses are inactivated.
In the study, out of the
243 people recruited, 83 used the nasal spray during a two-day religious event and for the following two weeks. Two participants tested positive for COVID-19 – compared with 16 among those who didn’t use the spray – which works out as a 78 per cent reduction in the risk of infection, and no side effects.
Remember, you can also get the virus by touching your eyes, so you still need to wear a mask and wash your hands.
