Cheryl’s frustration after Liam lets slip yet another confession
As her ex Liam Payne exposes more secrets about their private lives, Cheryl has to deal with the fallout
During their twoand-a-half-year relationship, Liam Payne repeatedly landed himself in hot water with ex Cheryl, as he couldn’t seem to stop himself from sharing details about their private life. And it appears his indiscretion has sparked a little tension in their long-standing friendship, with sources revealing that Cheryl – who shares son Bear, three, with Liam – may feel she can no longer rely on him not to reveal far too much.
During an Instagram Live session last week, Liam, 27, revealed he takes a coronavirus test ahead of every visit to
Bear during lockdown, adding, “He’s only up the street and it’s dead complicated, but he’s gotten so big, huge.”
While he didn’t reveal whose decision it was to impose the strict testing rule, fans were quick to slam Cheryl, 37, on social media, accusing her of being controlling. One said, “She’s using COVID as an excuse to cut him out. Ludicrous to make a parent get tested before seeing their own child!” While another commented, “Coparenting? Sounds like she’s calling all the shots to me.”
The source says, “Cheryl knows he doesn’t intend to cause trouble, but she has spoken to him about how much he shares and how she always gets dragged into it.
She’s told him to be more careful and it’s really frustrating for her that he keeps slipping up like this. She knows it’s not malicious, but she’s sick of having to deal with the fallout.
“It’s got to a point where she’s afraid to open up to Liam because she feels he may not always
keep things to himself, which is upsetting given that he’s been one of the closest people in her life over the last four years. She really wants to be open and honest with him when it comes to her feelings, but this is bound to have rattled her.”
EMBARRASSMENT
Former 1D star Liam has made a string of verbal slipsup over the years. In a 2019 interview, he revealed he’d found it hard to bond with his son when he was a newborn, saying Cheryl was “always glued to Bear”. He also caused embarrassment when he revealed how Cheryl had felt “massive” after giving birth, had “no complaints” about the size of his penis, and even interrupted her on the toilet during a live radio interview.
Liam previously admitted that Cheryl had chastised him in the past, confessing, “I do get a bit overexcited sometimes. I’ll go home and she’ll say, ‘What did you say that for?’”
The pair remained close for years, but have naturally gradually been growing apart since Liam began dating US model Maya Henry, 20. The couple got engaged in August.
And as Closer reported last week, insiders say Cheryl was a little upset after he hinted that he’s planning to start a family with Maya, sparking the realisation that he could give Bear a sibling before she does.
And pals say they wouldn’t be surprised if Cheryl worries that Liam’s latest gaffe could affect their formerly close bond.
The source says, “They’ve been naturally growing apart a little, and this latest episode has been yet another reminder that Liam isn’t ‘her person’ any more.”
DATING DREAMS
Last year, the former X Factor judge revealed she was “looking into other options” to conceive a second child in the absence of a partner, and insiders have previously told Closer that she was looking to date again.
But continued lockdown and restrictions have made it almost impossible to meet anyone.
