The source adds, “Jen was a bit taken aback to see how close Angelina and Salma had become. It hurt that someone she is friends with is now close to her nemesis, but she is trying not to dwell on it.”
Despite their bitter breakup, Jen and Brad have renewed their friendship, with Closer recently revealing that Jen had supported Brad through his divorce with regular “sympathy” phone calls.
“Jen believes he’s genuinely a nice guy who just wants to be a good dad and not have any more drama in his life,” the source says. “She picked up the phone after hearing about the interview [with Angelina] to make sure he was holding up.”
Angelina, who has recently been linked to rapper The Weeknd and her ex-husband Jonny Lee Miller, also joined Instagram for the first time last month. She broke a world record for being the fastest user to gain one million followers in three hours – a record formerly held by Jen herself.
COMEBACK
The source adds, “Jen felt it was Angelina’s way of coming back with a spectacular bang – and potentially stirring things up.”
Angelina has mainly stayed away from the public eye since her and Brad’s split, instead acting as stay-at-home mum to their six children. She directed her last film, First They Killed My Father, in 2017. “I never expect to be the one that everybody understands or likes,” the actress has said.
But it seems her latest project – a book on children’s human rights – is fuelling Angelina’s comeback. In the interview, the activist said she became an actress as she realised “a person who had a public voice had more power” to make a difference. But insiders insists she won’t be using her platform to deliberately ruffle feathers.
“Angelina simply wants to be doing all she can to make the right changes for the world,” the source says.. “That means getting herself back out there, mingling in Hollywood circles and making the right connections.”
The source adds that for Angelina, this process also requires her to be honest about her own struggles.
“While that means Brad’s name may get dragged into it, she insists she will be true to herself,” says the source.
“Of course, Angelina wants peace and for people to heal – especially her own family. Even though tensions may be high, she truly hopes and believes that one day she and Brad will be able to achieve that.”
