Farrah earns success at her first-ever Crufts
A CLYDEBANK schoolgirl has achieved success on the national stage after her performance at Crufts.
Farrah Macdonald, who attends Kilbowie Primary, competed at the international dog show on Saturday, March 8.
Crufts has been held annually since 1891 and as well as being a championship show for dogs it also includes a trade show of goods and services.
The nine-year-old featured in the Working and Pastoral category, where she finished second in the 6-11 age group for Junior Handling along with family pet Nova.
Mum Jody explained the close relationship her daughter has with the dog as well as the preparation involved in getting ready for such an event.
Speaking to The Post, she said: “It was the first time Farrah had ever appeared at Crufts, and she only started dog handling in August of last year.
“Farrah competed with Nova who is our family dog and she is only a puppy.
“She is a wee Shetland sheepdog and is only seven months old.
“She has been going to Junior Handling training in Dumbarton since August of last year and we practice ourselves every other day at home with Nova.”
Jody also revealed that Farrah has plans to compete at Crufts for many years to come and that she has received plenty of support from family and friends both before and after the recent success.
“There has been a really positive reaction from family and friends and at school,” she continued.
“Farrah also goes to dancing and has had lots of support from her friends and parents at the club.
“This is definitely something she wants to keep doing.”
