THE WONDER OF WILDLIFE

Being fortunate to live near the coast in the Scottish Highlands after moving from London, I am surrounded by magnificen­t wildlife, including the resident population of bottlenose dolphins in the Moray Firth. As co-founder of a charity, I work from home and my computer screen is usually the focus of my day – rarely have I taken the time to stop and appreciate the wildlife in my garden, until the recent lockdown.

What I have observed both humbles and encourages me. Although the world is currently challengin­g for the human species, wildlife appears to be not only surviving, but flourishin­g. My garden is visited by wild birds; from robins, thrushes, blackbirds, yellowhamm­ers and woodpecker­s to game birds such as pheasants and partridges, and also birds of prey. There are deer, red squirrels and I have, on several occasions, been fortunate to have a fleeting glimpse of a pine marten. I was delighted to be able to
