THE WONDER OF WILDLIFE
Being fortunate to live near the coast in the Scottish Highlands after moving from London, I am surrounded by magnificent wildlife, including the resident population of bottlenose dolphins in the Moray Firth. As co-founder of a charity, I work from home and my computer screen is usually the focus of my day – rarely have I taken the time to stop and appreciate the wildlife in my garden, until the recent lockdown.
What I have observed both humbles and encourages me. Although the world is currently challenging for the human species, wildlife appears to be not only surviving, but flourishing. My garden is visited by wild birds; from robins, thrushes, blackbirds, yellowhammers and woodpeckers to game birds such as pheasants and partridges, and also birds of prey. There are deer, red squirrels and I have, on several occasions, been fortunate to have a fleeting glimpse of a pine marten. I was delighted to be able to
